I never would have contributed to this thread if it weren't for (...)
Yea, that's possibly the biggest load of crap I've ever heard (I mean, those two posters' posts).
Now I'll not take shots at anyone, just thinking out loud...
It's funny how blind fans of the old band always come up with some excuse or theories as to why the new band can't be as good to some as the old band was/is to them. They're mostly ignorant pricks that, just like you said, equal quality to quantity. Their aguments would fit a Britney vs Gaga discussion, but not a rock n' roll discussion.
What if guys like Buckethead and Bumblefoot made much more impact on me than Slash and his older bluesy Joe Perry-like style did? What if I like Axl's voice (and overall attitude, musicality, etc) post-94 era better than pre-93 era? To me it's all about the new band, simply put. As much as I like(d) the old band and their songs, I would not follow them if there ever was a reunion - happily Axl wont do that. I seriously would not be interested in watching the old guys play the songs the exact same way they were playing them 20 plus years ago. Sorry, that's not for me. I wouldn't be interested in yet another Aerosmith/Zep-like album, just like I was not interested in Black Ice. Sure, the mainstream audience would like it, but it is the same mainstream that made Bieber bigger than Guns nowadays - I mean record sales, bigger audience, etc. I'm not stuck in the past and I'll always look forward, not backwards. I'll always listen to guys like Bumblefoot, Buckethead, Govan etc that are constantly pushing the guitar (and overall musicianship) limits instead of listening to guys re-using the same old rock clichés and using known rock icons to sell their albums.
Quality will always beat quantity (popularity) in my books and for that I'd take "Shackler's Revenge" instead of "You're a Lie". I mean, take a closer look to the solos. One is an average rock generic solo that goes nowhere (with some cool/good moments, not denying that), other is an inventive half fretless/half fretted solo with really inventive playing that has distinct start, middle and ending. You may like the first one better, but the other is where guitar playing is at to me - new (great) ideas, (very) accurate playing, inventive ways to split the solo while still being really tasteful. Keep in mind that it's MY OWN FUCKING OPINION whether you like or support it or not.
So yes, new Guns all the way. They're here to those who like, those who don't simply don't follow and get the fuck out of here. That's pretty simple.

(Not taking anything away from the older guys, obviously not. I just happen to like the new music way better... even if YOU dont like it)
