New album in the works? Well, maybe...

A source close to the band has told Music Feeds that the current GNR lineup — that’s Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardists Melissa Reese and Dizzy Reed — have been busy writing new material together while on the road, and have plans to record a brand new album this year.

What’s more, despite recently wrapping up their huge Not In This Lifetime world tour, the partly-reunited original GNR lineup have now signalled on more than one occasion that they’re far from over.

Speaking with Music Feeds, Guns N’ Roses’ former manager Vicky Hamilton — who recently dropped her memoir Appetite For Dysfunction: A Cautionary Tale — also says that she thinks a new album from the band’s reunited lineup is “likely”, although admits she’s not directly “in the know”.

“The guys are not allowed to speak with anyone from their past while on this tour and they are not doing any press,” she says.

This follows on from Axl’s comments in June last year when he said (in a very rare interview) that he’d been working on new Gunners material.

“We [Guns N’ Roses] are working on new stuff,” he said at the time. “I’ve got a lot of stuff together, and I played some stuff for Slash and Duff and they liked it.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Ong, the manager of Aussie Guns N’ Roses fan page ‘GUNS OVER OZ’, reckons his crew have also heard whispers about GNR cooking up some brand spankin’ new tunes while on the road.

“From our understanding, the band have been sharing ideas for a while now and even from last year’s touring,” he says.

Nobody knows, as there have been no interviews or anything for a good while.

MyGNRForum administrator downzy recently wrote about Axl Rose working on Guns N’ Roses’ new album in 2014 and 2015 in new MYGNRForum posts.

“A lot of effort on Axl’s part went into finishing off many unreleased material in 2014-2015. When Bumble and Ashba left, it kind of left the entire operation in a lurch. There was an internally established goal within the camp to get something out in 2016. That plan was ultimately abandoned once Slash and Duff rejoined the band..."

downzy later posted more about the new material.

“It’s not up to debate, as I have first-hand knowledge that Axl was spending a ton of time in the studio in 2015 working on finishing off material that was previously recorded and worked on. ...

My hope is that the tours go well and perhaps Axl, Duff, and Slash revisit some of the material Axl was working on since most of it has to be close to completion."

GN'R have released a video promoting the upcoming tour dates. It also indicates that this is supposed be just the "f***ing beginning"! Supposedly there's going to be some kind of announcement tomorrow (May 24th). (New album, more touring??)

GUNS N' ROSES appears to be teasing a celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of its iconic debut album, "Appetite For Destruction", by placing ads around New York City featuring the record's artwork with the hashtag #APPETITE30TH.

"Appetite" will officially turn thirty this Friday (July 21), and the band is scheduled to perform an intimate show one day earlier at New York City's famed Apollo Theater.

Don't hold your breath...

Fortus, who joined Guns N’ Roses in 2002, has given fans a brief update on what to expect from the new record, disclosing that the band are “excited” to get back to the studio and write new music.

“Everyone is excited about it. There’s a really magical thing now with the band. It feels like a new band,” Fortus told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “It feels like the best version [of the band] since I joined, and it’s the most fun for me. There’s so much excitement around it.”

Today I read that the tour has grossed more money than the one of Metallica and U2. I have no source to cite.

Try this one:

Grossing $151.5 million, GUNS N' ROSES was the only group to sell more than one million tickets so far this year, says Pollstar president Gary Bongiovanni.

With an average ticket price of $108.98, GUNS' two shows at London Stadium on June 16 and June 17 generated the largest individual box office gross anywhere on the planet, raking in $17.3 million.

On tour in North America, U2 had a better average gross of $7.38 million on 19 shows, compared to GN'R's $5.61 million on 30 shows.

METALLICA was seen by 688,909 people at a gross of $88 million.
