Rock of Ages
« on: June 10, 2012, 03:54:52 AM »
I got this week's Entertainment Weekly and it had a review on the new movie Rock of Ages.

The article mentioned a few things about Axl Rose.

Tom Cruise As Stacee Jaxx
Cruise's personl hairstylist MIchael White added an inch and a half of extensions to the star's locks to create a style that's reminiscent of a young Axl Rose. according to shankman, the decision to model the look on the Guns N Roses frontman came after hearing Cruise sing. "Tom's voice sounds like Axl's says the director.

There's also a small picture of Axl with his bandanna and beard next to Cruise's picture.

I had no intention of seeing this movie but I'm curious now to hear if Cruise does sound like Axl?

I doubt Tom will sound as amazing as Axl especially back in the 80's, since no one did, but I'm curious to hear Tom sing now.  Oh, and I think Axl looked way better than Tom does in the movie.

Look, i'm sure Tom Cruise will be so auto tuned that he could sound like anyone. It's a movie after all.

Oh my fucking god! :fpalm:

Fuck Tom Cruise. I would gladly push him in front of a train if given the chance.

Johan is not nuts. At least not anymore nuts than the rest of us. He is ruled by his own psychology, which includes jealousy that he cannot sing that high.

I reckon he won't sound anything like Axl. In the trailer you see how Twisted Sister's We're not gonne take it will be one of the main songs in the movie.
If an album comes out, then buy it. If there's a concert you can go to, then go to it. You're not owed another record. You're not owed any inside stories. You're not owed the band to be managed by people you approve. It's just electronically recorded vibrations that you happen to like.

Whatever, dude's got talent and is a very funny mother fucker. Go watch Tropic Thunder, Cruise owns in that movie.

I was really excited at first, Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, 80's hair metal, musical! Then I found out it is PG-13.

If this were a hard R rated, funny musical with great music and actors doing their own singing and doing it well (think Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line) I would consider this to be of sufficient quality to be in my top 3 fav musicals (Rocky Horror and South Park the movie are up there now). But a watered down, PG-13, mainstream musical about 80's hair metal just doesn't sound fun.

This movie better have massive appeal, charm and chops, something like Grease for a new generation, if it wants to be considered even entertaining. Otherwise it will be a disaster.

I'm in no way a fan of TC, but he was very funny in Tropic Thunder and I gave him credit for making himself look like a fat slob! also I thought he was amazing as the vampire Lestat in Interview with a Vampire and I was shocked when I heard he would play that part, but he was dead on with it.

Yeah, when I see the commercials and hear how they are singing the 80's songs, they sound awful to me.

I doubt I'll see this film and like I said, there's no one out there that sounds like Axl Rose! He's one of a kind.

Tom Cruise did use Axl's vocal coach. Paradise City is in the movie. And Dead or Alive too. Tom Cruise's character is based on partly Axl, Mötley Crue even The Stones or Bon Jovi!! They all have become cliche's of what they once were. Not worth a dime to watch it. (Google the soundtrack and shiver....)

I'm off in a few to another cliche; Slash and Myles. I'm sick and tired of too dark black dyed hair of the band members even Myles has dyed his hair darker. Fourthy-somethings and black dyed hair. Also sick of that top hat and mirror glasses. Still love the guitar. I go to pee or get a drink when they do a GnR song and leave the building asap when I hear the first tones of Paradise City. That's right! Not because of Myles sings it. But I'm so over the whole GnR cliche since the HOF and Axl's repetitive tours. But I do like the new album unless most of you. But this is another forum. And I also love Myles Kennedy. With Alter Bridge.

Nothing until now can beat Spinal Tap anyway to get back to the topic which is about a movie

Whatever, dude's got talent and is a very funny mother fucker. Go watch Tropic Thunder, Cruise owns in that movie.

That's one of his most worse movies. Boring as hell. That Scientology weirdo is definitely a talented actor but most of his movies suck. Interview with the Vampire, Magnolia, The Firm, Born On The Fourth Of July are some of his best parts. And back in the '80's I even loved Top Gun.

Watch the trailer of Rock of Ages..... :yuk2:

I totally agree with you.

The Dallas Morning news gave Rock of Ages a D. It said it sucked big time and the critic had to play Motorhead on the way home to get the bad taste of horrible performances out of his head! lol

Hate Glee all together. I can't believe some of the shit that's on tv today or in the movies.

Can't wait for Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter!

Tom might have had Axl's vocal coach but no way can he sing Paradise City like Axl.

I don't know what the hell this movie is about and why they even made it?

I think Motley Crue needs to make a movie out of The Dirt quick to show people what the 80's was really all about!
And make it unrated and direct to dvd and blue ray so we can get the FULL effect!
