[....]Slash was never apart of the band to begin with he got called for an audition...and in my eyes as well with alot of bands you hear today, none of them wouldn't be as popular without their lead singers....Axl with Guns,Robert Plant with Led Zeppelin,Jim Morrison with The Doors,Steven Tyler with Aerosmith,Vince Neil with Motley Crue those are just a few examples of bands that wouldn't survive if they never had their leading frontmen[....]
your nickname tells a lot, but i'm replying anyway:
the Axl fans like to spit out that Slash wasnt a founding member and he just quit the band in the mid 90s, bla bla bla. fact is that Axl is guilty for the break-up aswell. not goin into that in detail right now but lets say you can make your friends leaving your own party - even if thats not an easy decision for them.
as for the original/classic members or the founding issue: Slash was all around before the AFD line-up, he even played with Axl live about 1 year(!!) before 06/06/1985, check Reckless Road-book with pics and info from Marc Canter, the "bible" of GN'R Early Days!! apparently it went like this:
January 03, 1984 - LA: first Axl gig in LA ("Rose"):
Izzy,
Axl, Chris Weber, Johnny Krieff/Kreiss, Rick Mars
June 16,
1984 - Madame Wong, West, LA ("Hollywood Rose"):
Izzy,
Axl,
Slash,
Adler, Steve Darrow
[...]then transitions (L.A. Guns, New Hollywood Rose etc.)
March 26, 1985 - Troubadour, LA: first "GN'R" show:
Izzy, Tracii Guns,
Axl, Ole Beich, Rob Gardner
04.11.85 - Radio City, Anaheim, CA:
Izzy, Tracii Guns,
Axl,
Duff, Rob Gardner
04.24.85 - Troubador, Hollywood, CA:
Izzy, Tracii Guns,
Axl,
Duff, Rob Gardner
04.25.85 - Dancing Waters Club, San Pedro, CA:
Izzy, Tracii Guns,
Axl,
Duff, Rob Gardner
06.06.85 - Troubador, Hollywood, CA:
first show with AFD line-up (just "Anything Goes" and "Think About You" from AFD in the setlist)
so, Slash and Adler even were around live with Axl/Izzy about 1 year before the AFD-line-up played their first show. and Duff played already on the 2nd GN'R show. watching those setlist just the 2 more weak songs from AFD (TAY, AG) have been written until then....all the other songs have been performed and mostly written together
after they've played the 1st AFD line-up show. let alone they've recorded and released it all together later. so nevertheless how Axl fans would like to see it....the AFD line-up created most of the AFD songs together starting with WTTJ. and therefor they got inducted at the HOF in the 1st place: for their debut album AFD which they've created together!!!
and while you bring up some of the big bands, just take away their main guitarists and see what would be left:
Led Zeppelin without Jimmy Page, Aerosmith without Joe Perry, Rolling Stones without Keith Richards, ACDC without Angus Young.....the latest band actually got more successful -though through death circumstances- with "replacing" Bon Scott with Brian Johnson, see, that can work, too!
here is another recent Axl pic for his fanboys:
