Can anyone explain why there's so much complaining about about Ashba's partially gay looks, while there's never a complain about how entirely gay most of the band looked mostly during the '84 - '87 period (hair! clothes! make up!)?

In many ways, Ashba's style is up-to-date as well. In many ways it is the style from now.

I don't agree Ashba looks waay gayer than Axl did back than. I always thought of that period as a very gay period in metal/rock, even though it wasn't meant to be homosexual (as it's surely not Ashba's intention). But it was intended to look quite female (as provocation, which is surely not Ashba's intention!). Because many bands did it, is not a good reason for me. I don't like it now, and didn't like it back than (as far as I remember it).

Regarding Ashba's style, what I will say is this. Back in the day, yes Guns looked camp. But they ushered in a new era (although it was a repeat as it happened) which saw people like Bon Jovi start wearing torn jeans and let his stubble grow. DJ Ashba has latched onto what all the posing tosspots do in the hope that it will lead to commercial success, which, to be fair, it has.
