Madagascar, DJ Sticks sound effects

Can anyone whos in the know explain what the sound is like when DJ uses the drum sticks. Is there an audio of this that u can hear it clearly. Just interested

I wondered about that too. DJ came into the song later with a pocket full of drumsticks that he handed out to the audience and that was fun but I was watching for some musical theatrics, not that there wasn't enough of that going on already.

its pretty much like using a slide put instead of on the neck of the guitar its the body, its in a way like jimmy page using the violin bow.

I was watching video from the 70s just last night of a bassist who laid his base across one of the drums while the drummer played the strings. The bassist still did the fingering on the guitar. They worked it out in the middle of a rock/classical fusion song. I forgot the name of the band, I just got the DVD and it's video compilation but I enjoyed it a lot. I love that kind of stuff and thought Frank and DJ had maybe worked out some percussive thing - a little improvisational homage to Michael Hedges maybe :lol:in the intro to Madagascar. Hell, anything could happen.

I think that he is sending out a code that tells us when the new album is coming out

He was giving them out to fans as swag. I'm guessing Frank didn't want to fling them from the drum riser because he might wing one of the band members or crew -  or a fan might not see it coming and get one in the eye - law suit to ensue. Gives DJ something to do until his part comes in. At one of the shows I attended DJ kept trying to give one to Richard while his hands were busy. Richard finally grabbed it and flung it into the crowd with a "DJ you are a pest" gesture. I think they like goofing on each other. I still wish DJ and Frank had done a percussive bumper to the intro to Madagascar there.
