British comedy.

The BBC has many critics and probably rightfully so, but one thing it can't be denied is its oustanding contribution to comedy over the years.

I mean, consider this for a fucking great list of shows: Dads Army, Porridge, Steptoe & Son, Some Mothers Do Ave Em, Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses, the Vicar Of Dibley, A Bit Of Fry and Laurie, Keeping Up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, Yes Minster, Open All Hours, One Foot In The Grave, Men Behaving Badly, Red Dwarf, The Royle Family, The Office, The Young Ones, Bottom, I'm Alan Partridge, Bread, and lets not forget the more modern approach to comedy with great shows such as Q.I, Have I Got News For You, and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

It's an outstanding track record and I can only do this.....

I couldn't agree with you more here man, but you seem to be forgetting The Thick of It, one of the most well written and acted and original comedies in recent memory and personally my favourite comedy of all time.

Wasn't "Last Of The Summer Wine" also a BBC show?

Only fools and horses and 4th season of Blackadder are by far the best comedies ever written

The BBC =

This is why I am glad to pay for a television license. We don't get that (apologies for this comment) crap 'comedy' that Americans get, and better still, we get it without all the sponsors.
I think it is high time for a bit of class around here, don't you?

Are you stating that you don't get the crap comedy our stations make and put out?

If so I am agreeable with that statement, I myself am getting tired of the repetitive "toilet humor" shows and "crazy scenario" comedies that are being churned out.

No, we don't. We do get those shows on Sky, which is how I know how inferior they are to ours, but we don't get them on the BBC. I will give HBO its due - it makes some top quality television. I just have to say that I have never seen an American comedy I enjoy. The humour is always very obvious, and like you put it, the toilet humour and crazy scenario stories. But then, I knew you were a man of taste - you enjoyed Brian Butterfield and Limmy

American tv is not that bad. Comedy wise its definitely weaker, but considering its given us shows like The Wire, Buffy and Angel, Game of thrones, breaking bad and ncis...i can forgive the shit comedy.

I changed the title because whilst the BBC is the undoubtable top dog, other networks have brought us gems also. Most notably channel 4, with the likes of Father Ted and the dark humour of shows such as Misfits and Shameless.

I can't think of any from ITV, apart from Rising Damp.

Well, I can agree on The Wire and Breaking Bad, hence the part in my last post about HBO giving us quality shows. They also gave us Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Agree. I prefer the wicked, at times subtle British humour peppered with irony to the American one though Married With Children is not a bad show.

In the past I found 'Allo 'Allo amusing especially when not dubbed.

I'd give Americans their more serious shows like The Wire, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos etc, but aside from very very few exceptions their comedy is horrendous.

Two and a Half Men? How I Met Your Mother? The Big Bang Theory? Scrubs? These shows are not just all terrible but they are crimes against humanity.
