I won't deny that, he clearly wants the band to be doing more, and publicly voices that fact

Not only that, it prevents him from persuing other things and collaborating with others, because he simply cannot guarantee that he is available.

Well. It didn't prevent him from working a lot with Poc besides other producer projects. It does prevent him from touring with other bands, though, at least he has said so himself, still he did tour with Lita Ford some time back. But that's how it is to be part of a band. And I believe Guns N' Roses is much bigger than Bumblefoot is today nor will ever be. It helps his career a lot more than slowing it down.

I do not deny that it helps his career, certainly in terms of promoting him and in how much he earns.  The problem that the members of the band have is, they have to be 100% ready to tour at short notice.  This would all be well and good if they were a BAND, in terms of how information is passed on and plans are made.  Ron is like Bucket, they love nothing better than to record, and tour and most importantly, stay busy.  At some point, (just as it did with Bucket) it is inevitable that he will get sick of the inactivity and being kept in the dark about plans, and will leave, unless circumstances change in regard to how the band is organised.   He constantly expresses his wishes to tour as a solo act, and the difference between GnR and any other band is that he could ask "can i go on tour as a solo act for "x" amount of time?" and be told yes or no.  It appears that if he asked such a question in this band, he could be told yes and as he prepares for the tour and books venues etc he is suddenly told "we need you here".  I know if it was me, that would piss me off no end.  Being told no in the first place is WAY different to being told no after you plan and arrange things because you received a "yes" initially.  That right there is THE problem that GnR have, in my humle opinion of course :)

For me Ron is maybe not the most talented and virtose guitarist the band have had but he's the band member who deserves most respect because all he does for the band comes from the heart. And he cares for people.

I think he is the most technical and adept player they have ever had, but as with so many geniuses that can play anything he suffers from not having his own distinct style and becomes a bit anonymous. He is also the type of player than needs a band as a vehicle to promote his artistry to the full extent.

I think the problem really is that we've not yet heard any GN'R songs which he's helped to write (Mainly because they've yet to actually write any songs since he joined, apparantly), so he's only been able to make additions to songs written by the guys before him, hence why he's yet to establish a real 'style' within the band.
However his dedication to the fans is second to none. I remember not too long back he had a live chat on his forum (myself and captain took part), and he used to do all those meet n' greets last year.
Fuck, even at Reading festival last year where I was at, the band were late and Ron came up on stage and spoke something into the mike, from what I heard he was talking to Axl/the rest of the band telling them to get their arses on stage.
Though DJ fortunately is also vey fan-friendly, to be fair to him

On the bumblefoot discussion, he's doing a live stream right now showing us how he's producing an album
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bumblestream

fascinating to watch, and he just summed up what was said earlier, he actually said he loves producing other people's music even more than being on stage. Solid fucking guy
