I wasn't actually thinking of The Beatles but what happened to GN'R has happened to many bands.

You mean "Velvet Revolver", right? Yeah, and like everything else music bands must come to an end, eventually, and I disagree that this ultimate end reduces them to "failures" as you implied for VR.

OK, I agree with you and Chaser in that respect but VR could never achieve GN'R success and I think all the band members - former & present want that more or less & try to reach it to some extent in every project they start. So in this respect VR is a failure for me.

Hehe, yes, if we compare all bands to THE GREATEST BAND EVA, then they all fade in comparison and comes off as utter failures. But seriously, by most normal criteria VR is not a failure, and actually going on hiatus may have been a smart move, I wish more bands would stop while the going is good. I don't see VR as a failure at all.

yay! a GNR reunion! Say what you want, but I'm calling it a fuckin' reunion! i don't give a fuck if Axl isn't there and technically wouldn't be "Guns N' Roses". it's the fuckin' the Use Your Illusion line-up and that's amazing!

It's not. Slash won't be there either, it's a benefit concert "honoring Slash", the way I understand it, Slash won't be there himself.

Sorry, I got that wrong. My fault.  :(

No. Sorry, I got that wrong - sounded like a "tribute" gig to me ("honoring Slash"), but I checked and it sounds like Slash will be playing:

Quote
Slash the 2011 Road Recovery Benefit Concert Honoree August 9, 2011

Slash will be performing as this year's Road Recovery honoree at their annual concert in New York City at the Best Buy Theater on Sept 13. Slash will be performing with Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke, Wayne Kramer and more to support the Road Recovery Charity.

Road Recovery is dedicated to helping young people battle addiction and other adversities by harnessing the influence of entertainment industry professionals who have confronted similar crises and now wish to share their experience, knowledge, and resources.
