Degrading drug addicts (especially ones who've died) is wrong IMO. I understand if you don't have sympathy for them, that is one thing. But saying they asked for it or deserved it is just wrong. Let's say you're a bad driver and you've been killed in an accident that wasn't exactly your fault (fingers crossed it doesn't happen). How would your family or people who cared for you feel if people were walking around saying you deserved it for not being a good driver or you asked for it?

Like I said, people don't have sympathy for everyone whose died. Which is fine. But insulting them after they've passed is a bitch move. But whatever, I don't know that much so I'll stop talking

I agree. We have thousands of opportunities to criticize a person's life choices and even illnesses (which I think addiction is), doing it right after a death when people are mourning is extremely bad taste and style. It's pathetic.

I can agree with that. The thing that I find a bit odd (and uncool) is that certain people aren't trying to defend her death, just her cause of death...if you can understand where I am coming from...

There is nothing wrong in just refraining from criticizing someone in a short mourning period, neither does it make you a hypocrite unless you suddenly start explicitly expressing something opposite of what you have said before. The elegant way is just to stay silent on the topic for a short while out of respect for not the diseased but for those in mourning.

I am a Geordie, elegant is not in my vocabulary.  If she died in an accident i would show sympathy however, she died tanked up and high, therefore i have nothing to be symapthetic about.  Her fault not mine, not anyone elses.  People say blah blah, she needed more help, blah blah.  They cannot be helped unless they want to help themselves, she refused help, she carried on, she died.

I must disagree, and I am using Ms Winehouse for the basis of my argument. For one thing this wasn't anyone's fault but her own. She wasn't rear ended by a eighteen wheeler. No one forced her to do drugs. She chose to do them herself and apparently she refused help. Eventually it (apparently) killed her. It's sad that she is dead but how can you say she didn't ask for it?  She chose to do the drugs knowing they could kill her, she refused help, she kept doing drugs knowing it could kill her. Eventually, they killed her. If she hadn't been asking for it then she would've quit drugs a long time ago...

Or in simpler terms; If you play Russian roulette and you lose (or win depending on your outlook)...you were asking for death

In the end she, along with Janis Joplin, Tommy Bolin and many others just stand to show drugs can and will kill you given enough time...

I'm not joyous over her death, nor am I trying to be disrespectful to her family, friends, fans etc, however I am not going to pretend that she regrew her hymen and was a clean angel.

For the record the official report is still "inconclusive" as of yet so most of the insults and arguments could become moot. I am for the moment basing my statements on the first reported (and most listed) cause of death, which would be a drug overdose.

well, can you talk about free will when it comes to a drug addict? specially considering that all addictions are an illness. sometimes we cant choose to be healthy

maybe you can talk about free will the first time they ever do drugs, or the second one.  once they become addicts their will is completely tied up and that's when you have to start treating that person as an ill patient.

some are just more lucky than other ones, some try drugs in social meetings and never take the vice home with them. but that's just luck, who can say that will never try drugs or that has never tried them?
