In general Fender Strats and Gibson Les Pauls  are very good multi purpose guitars for playing most styles . It comes down to a matter of taste on what feels best and looks best to you . As long as your tuners are decent and stay in tune, have decent strings and have decent pickups now it just comes down to what amps/effects you use for the sound you get , plus your technique  .

In my humble opinion you chose fine with a Fender if its a strat and not something  like a Fender telecaster or someting else if rock is what you are after

You should play a range of guitars and find the one that you like the best. Then buy that guitar and learn the killer riffs on it.
I think it is high time for a bit of class around here, don't you?

Good choice :) Did you get a higher end one or one of the cheaper 100 to 200 dollar range ones ? If one of the cheaper ones you may want to consider upgrading tuners to locking ones at least so it stays in tune better and maybe even new pickups if u aren't happy with what u got .

Post a pic of it

Scratch that sorrry! It's a Fender Squier. I got the cheaper ones, about $250 plus the amp, case, picks, chords costing me total of about 600 some dollars.

Pic coming up soon.

My computer is being weird. I'll try and fix it as soon as possible so I can upload a real pic. I'll rip one off the internet.

Riffs on a Fender? Surely Mr. Hendrix and Mr. Malmsteen have a word to share about that...

Indeed.

Just going off the top of my head here, but I seem to recall him using a blue strat at the Knebworth gig in 79?

(at least on "In The Evening")

Tony Iommi used a strat on "Wicked World" and another song I cant think of right now on the first Sabbath album, I think its "The Warning"
