Random fact(s): The song "Among the Living" from the 1987 Anthrax album of the same name, is about the character Randall Flagg from the novel The Stand.

The cover of Among the Living depicts the Rev. Henry Kane, antagonist from the Poltergeist series of films. It has also been speculated that the cover is a homage to the character Randall Flagg.

The song "A Skeleton In The Closet" is also inspired by a Stephen King novella entitled Apt Pupil.

I've read every King novel, all of his short story/story collections, 2 of his non-fiction books and all of his Richard Bachman novels.

I consider him to be a very good writer, sometimes great, but for the most part he falls short of true greatness.
Horror/thriller authors tend not to be taken as seriously or held in the same regard as other genres. He is definitely the best horror writer of the last half century although a lot of his novels aren't necessarily "scary" or horror at all. Hearts In Atlantis is a perfect example of a story collection that's not horror but does have some horror elements. It's also one of his many works that weaves its way into his celebrated Dark Tower series.

I've not read Lisey's Story yet. I can tell you that it's Kings personal favourite work. The fans are divided on it. It's not your typical king novel.

I've got about 6 King novels and about eight or nine short stories/novellas to read to complete the lot.

He's got a new one out this year too called "11.22.63" it's apparently about time travel and the JFK assassination.  :paranoid:

Lisey's Story is probably my favorite King novel although some of his work I haven't read in over 25 years and don't remember...

It's certainly not "typical" King fare. I found it to be one of his more "adult" novels, so to speak. Bag Of Bones being another. It tackles love and relationships over a period of time. There are elements of horror in it and some Dark Tower elements as well.

Don't forget to include Carrie, and the Body aka Stand by Me.  He also has a new collection of short stories out that I just got called "Full dark, no stars."  Stephen King rules!

"IT" or "The Stand."

Can't go wrong.

I might even stick my neck on the line and claim IT is superior to The Stand. :ninja:

It has been that long since I watched the movie, I honestly couldn't say.

The book is ace, so take from these two sentences what you can.

I know there's a few fans of The Dark Tower series, so I thought I should share this, as I've only just become aware of the existence of this short story.

Wiki
Quote
"The Little Sisters of Eluria" is a novella by Stephen King. It was originally published in 1998 in the collection Legends: Short Novels by the Masters of Modern Fantasy. In 2002, it was collected in King's collection Everything's Eventual.

The tale features Roland of Gilead, whose quest for the Dark Tower is in its infancy; its events precede those of the body of the Dark Tower cycle, but occur after Roland's experiences in Mejis as chronicled in The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass. At the time of telling he is accompanied by a horse and is already following Walter o'Dim, the Man in Black. He plans to eventually buy another horse, or perhaps a mule; which ties in with the events at the beginning of The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger.

Both are great but I think the Stand tops It by a mile.

As Jplpool said, It or the Stand, though they are both quite literally massive books, if you want something a bit shorter to get a feel for his work, i'd say the Shining or 'Salem's Lot

Let's be honest, we are splitting hairs between two fantastic novels.
