Because the millions and millions of people who have watched the movie and not read the book do not come into the equation.

Only got into his books about a year ago, but love them. He has a great style of writing...quite 'chatty', his books may be long, but it doesnt always feel that long when reading them.

-The Stand
-Carrie
-The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger

One's i've got and need to read:
-'Salem's Lot
-Insomniac
-Skeleton Crew
-Lisey's Story

Oh, is Lisey's Story good? I've got it (Found it cheap in a charity shop), but been told less than positive things about it...

The shining: only recognized because of kubrick's movie which was ten times better

 

The film was great, had some genuinly scary parts, but the book is fantastic

I've not read Lisey's Story yet. I can tell you that it's Kings personal favourite work. The fans are divided on it. It's not your typical king novel.

I've got about 6 King novels and about eight or nine short stories/novellas to read to complete the lot.

He's got a new one out this year too called "11.22.63" it's apparently about time travel and the JFK assassination.

That book sounds pretty good, based on the description..we shall see.
Then he's got the next Dark Tower book out..fillin the gaps between 4 and 5 I believe
