that's actually a pretty interesting topic.

The UK is hated all over Europe.

* The Dutch could do with showing more respect but the odds aren't high for that happening.

Explain for what reason we Dutch should show more respect for the English? In what era do you live?
I remember the many unemployed young men whom arrived (and still live here) very well looking for work in the 80's and the early 90's. They'd never left and some never made much effort to speak our language at least a bit properly.
For some reason the some English don't consider themselves Europeans. But when it it suits some of them then they have the right to work free all over Europe since they are Europeans. Odd......but it's not really consequent right? Not that I mind they came to work here since it's their right to do so. And actually I'm quite fond of a few of them. Also I like the UK a lot, one of the best places I enjoy for holidays. Further I don't know a soul who hate the English in general. Yes, those damned hooligans but whom doesn't? I've a good female friend who's from Cornwall; she doesn't hate the English either. Never been treated, being a Dutch, in your country like I needed to show a more respect for anything than the usual normal behaviour? Funny, before I entered this forum I've always found the English so great....?? Maybe it's you or group of people that think like that? I find this all medieval and hatred thinking. In the end we're all stuck with one another on this globe.

(This is edited due to someone's reply. I should not reply to such posts in a break. My stupid mistake. I quit this. I don't mind either what the replier said or anyone else for that matter. A fascist? So be it then.)

because the amount of times we've provided for the Dutch keeps adding up and it's irrelevant of era you don't shit on good relations for the sake of it

I remember the many unemployed young men whom arrived (and still live here) very well looking for work in the 80's and the early 90's. They'd never left and some never made much effort to speak our language at least a bit properly.
same can be said for migrant workers everywhere a lot of Eastern Europeans are fairly bad for it as are many middle eastern families

For some reason the some English don't consider themselves Europeans.
i think that's because the EU is something the vast majority of UK citizens do not want and the connotation of being European is the EU. Or perhaps because Britain has a political stance that is closer to the USA than Europe.

But when it it suits some of them then they have the right to work free all over Europe since they are Europeans.
probably because unlike ants humans don't share a hive mind and can think independently. Just because the majority want no part of Europe doesn't make it a set in stone rule that we all gave an oath to uphold, like anyone else we do what we want.

Odd......but it's not really consequent right?
no, not really

Not that I mind they came to work here since it's their right to do so. And actually I'm quite fond of a few of them. Also I like the UK a lot, one of the best places I enjoy for holidays. Further I don't know a soul who hate the English in general.
i know many who have an avid dislike for the English I've been to several European countries and the vibe is quite diverse across the continent although i must confess to not visiting Italy i'm really just going on message board comments on that one.

Yes, those damned hooligans but whom doesn't?
you learn to live with them

I've a good female friend who's from Cornwall; she doesn't hate the English either.
Let me make 4 points here:
1. Just because you know one woman in Cornwall does not mean you have a scope on the social dynamic
2. True Cornish people are a dying breed so to speak as the majority of the land is bought by middle class people from the midlands and London who move down. As a rule of thumb the names begin with either Tre (like mine), Pol or Pen.
3. If you want to tell me that because you know a woman from Cornwall that there is no dislike for the rest of the country when i've lived here since the day i was born be prepared to be wrong.
4. as a testament to how much of a dislike we have there are several parties the Cornish National Liberation Army (who received training from the Provisional IRA and have done fuck all with it), An Gof (another radical group) and Mebyon Kernow (a diplomatic based organisation)...now they will all claim different goals but if you get to seeing them speak or talk to a member they're very anti English. And these groups are not just a dozen guys wanking with the county flag on their cocks they measure hundreds-thousands and have a shit load of sympathizers.

Never been treated, being a Dutch, in your country like I needed to show a more respect for anything than the usual normal behaviour?
when you start belittling the blood we spilt trying to keep you guys as a democracy with the right to choose we tend to get a bit pissed off, if we're going to go out and die in a foreign land for an ideal that doesn't really work we don't expect gratitude but it's incredibly disrespectful to even suggest that that doesn't matter anymore.

Funny, before I entered this forum I've always found the English so great....?? Maybe it's you or group of people that think like that?
I have had a few issues with the Dutch from a trip to Amsterdam but as a UK citizen abroad i have learnt to expect that but i did expect better.

I find this all medieval and hatred thinking. In the end we're all stuck with one another on this globe.
A lot of foreign relations to this day have roots in the medieval period but then you have to wonder is it proximity or history that provokes the animosity.

i understand that part to be fair i mean you're in Liverpool surely you've had issues with Eastern Europeans working there?
Apparently a new Amy Winehouse 'Greatest Hits' collection is coming out, but the tinfoil and spoons aren't included.

Immigration is a valid issue, and a policy that needs to be correctly policed for global stability.

I'm not sure the influx she refers to was anything other than a handful of people  :coffee

Ah...this thread. I shall endeavour to return this threadily readily to it's original state...that of sporting rivalry being elongated and stretched to a level of patriotic stupidity as displayed by the French manager...who hath just witnessed his team beaten by those very people he so damned with his indictment here previously shown.
How about a pint of me?
