if you put the money in and get a good quality animal there's no reason you can't too. It's not very hard, and the maintenance is really a case of what you can be assed to do (as long as the tank is clean but they only produce waste maybe once every week or two. Great pets but start with a smaller species like P.Regius and move on to boas then burmese and then retics (then african rock and anacondas after).
As long as you're not an incompetent moron who disregards safety you'll be fine...shit i been doing it since i was 4 with snakes over 10 foot and i've been good at it and only received one REAL bite. I whole heartedly recommend many snake species.
