Personally, I hate his 2001/2002 voice.
Interesting, I've heard a lot of other people voice their dislike for Axl's "helium years". I personally loved Axl and the 2002 incarnation of GN'R in general. Somebody else mentioned the key term "grandiosity", I can't elaborate on that because it hits the nail on the head perfectly. The tracks on "Chinese Democracy" are massive in terms of vocals, so an "Illusions era Axl", which Axl appears to now have reverted to, is not capable of performing the songs to the extent he did in 2002, nevermind on the actual record itself.
