Fabio Capello fires David Beckham...by interview
« on: August 13, 2010, 04:30:19 AM »
http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/837819-david-beckham-too-old-for-fabio-capellos-england-squad

what a way to treat one of Englands best ever players. At very least he could have rang the guy up in person.

Beckham deserves better and he's still doing ok, if he gets match fit by 2014 there's no reason he shouldn't play.

Yet another reason Capello deserves to be sacked.
Apparently a new Amy Winehouse 'Greatest Hits' collection is coming out, but the tinfoil and spoons aren't included.

Beckham is the past. Chez......he'll be 39 in 2014. Only goalkeepers play top flight footy at that age. Most players are finished at 33/34.
I hope, I do not wait.

Capello won't play him anymore, but who is to say Capello will be in charge for the Euro's. Becks could get another cap with the next coach. But I agree he is too old and youth should be given a chance, bad way to let Becks know tho.

you make a sound point but where do we draw the line? Lampard will be 36, ferdinand 35, Neville 37.

Age shouldn't really have a bearing if he stays match fit.

it seems as if Capello believes that he can run the team off of Wollcott, Rooney, Milner, Hart and both of the players named Johnson (all good players don't get me wrong...well all good except for one of the Johnson's who can't shoot for shit).

even though i do see your point it's fucking ridiculous that a man with a VERY tarnished reputation in the UK as it is would sack someone who has done so much for England. Like him or not the man is widely respected by many fans, players and managers alike. He deserves more than he got.

That's the point. He won't be match fit at 39. A footballers peak is sometime around 28 years of age. After that it's slowly downhill. Some players are exceptions to this. Giggs for example, but even he has had to modify his game. The one thing in Beckham's favour is that he's never really been blessed with a great deal of pace.

Lampard will be gone, Neville is already gone. Ferdinand may still be around, because central defenders tend to have a longer 'shelf life'

Here's a few examples; Alan Shearer-Retired from professional football aged 36. retired from international football aged 30.

Roy Keane- retired from professional football aged 35.

Thierry Henry- aged 33, now playing in America. A shadow of the player he was.

Zinedine Zidane-retired from professional football aged 34.

Also, on the 'Johnson' note if you're referring to Adam Johnson. He's only a 'kid' and one of the most naturally gifted youngsters around. It's rumoured that Capello's decision to not take him to the W.C left several senior players in dismay, such was his quality in training.

even though i do see your point it's fucking ridiculous that a man with a VERY tarnished reputation in the UK as it is would sack someone who has done so much for England. Like him or not the man is widely respected by many fans, players and managers alike. He deserves more than he got.

I think sack is the wrong word, but yeah, P.R nightmare for Capello. Especially seeing as he was so quick (albeit rightly so) for slamming John Terry for talking to the media about internal affairs.

All good managers protect their players, they do NOT ever discuss problems in the media. Some top managers take it to the extreme (Ferguson & Mourinho for example) what they do is, they make controversial statements to the media. Often attacking, opponents, referees or rival managers. The media likes to call these acts 'mind games', but that is only right to a certain degree. The media would have you believe, the 'mind games' are used to unsettle opponents, that's nonsense. What these so called mind games do, is, they turn the media spotlight away from the players and onto the manager. Men such as Ferguson or Mourinho, couldn't give a flying fuck if they are all over the T.V and Papers. It's water off a ducks back to them, they're happy to take the flak or make headlines if it means less
media attention towards their players.
I hope, I do not wait.

I was actually referring to G. Neville when I said he was "already gone"
I now realise you were referring to P. Neville. but anyway he'll be finished by then too. He'll probably be playing for Bury (the team he supported as a boy, his mum & dad both work at the club)

As a funny side-note. gary & phil neville's dad is called .....Wait for it..........Neville Neville  :retard:

I remember hearing fans singing to the melody of the Bowie classic "Rebel Rebel" ......."Neville Neville your face is a mess, Neville Neville, bad sense of dress"

I was also at a game were my mate shouted out....."I'm fucking sick of you neville, you useless pile of shite" only for the guy sitting next to us to point out that Phil's dad was seated 2 rows behind us.

*ramble over*
I hope, I do not wait.

Becks is 37 in 2012 for the EC. Why can't that be possbile? A phenomenon as he is deserves a better end of his career. :fpalm:

In 2000 I was somewhere in England in a pub watching England against....???? whatever......Engla nd lost. And the public boo-ed the team loud. Not good sports you overseas! We cry along and are silent when it happens to our team.  I believe there was only one goal for England. Becks made that goal. So he gave the boo-ers (sp.?) a firm  :finger: when he left the field and he was right to do so! Ha, the fuss in that pub and the newspapers the day about that  :finger: ..... :fpalm: And I got mad at the English in that pub due to a lot of that low-warm beer  :yuck and my temper. At first the English were sort of pissed at me and so was the ex. But the next game they supported our team to please us, that was cool and nice....The English? This  :fpalm: and this

I read he [Becks] refuse to play a 'friendly goodbye match'. Yeah  :finger: to that Capello!

But who am I?  :(

Sorry, but David Beckham is NOT one of England's greatest ever footballers. He doesn't even come close to such a credential. I would say however that Beckham may be one of England's greatest ever servants. The reality is that Beckham hasn't been overly magnificent since his early Manchester United days, his game for some time now has been limited to simple passing and set pieces. He's certainly not longer England quality any longer, but then again, neither is most of the England crop right now. I agree that Capello mishandled the whole Beckham thing big time, he basically laughed when the interviewer asked about his position on Beckham. Anyway, as an Irishman, I hope Capello milks England for all they're worth.

Why do you keep mentioning that I'm an Irish and that I'm a teenager? Does that cast some disability upon my argument? I just want to allude to the fact that all the so called “abilities” you alluded to have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with football whatsoever. I referred to him as being a loyal servant to the England team which is of course complimentary, obviously your poor English and lack of footballing knowledge has let you down again. You clearly no nothing about football, it's evident that you've never played and nor have you watched any games bar maybe the Netherlands' participation in the World Cup. As for your “crib” comments, I want to talk about football, not about how sexy David Beckham is or about my Jesus “crib”.

Thankfully that scenario didn't occur, I honestly don't know which side I would have wanted to win. I think I'd have watched the Brazil and Portugal instead.

And what other language did you manage to learn all by yourselves? Are you able to make yourselves clear in other European countries like I do? I don't think so. I remember Menelaos wrote a great comment about your medieval English. "Loyal servant"  jesus....
As for His Sexiness Becks: guys here talk all the time about females like this. Doesn't that bother you? Never. But alla there's still Wayne Rooney!

I'm only going to address the football related part of your comment because the rest of it is irrelevant utter drivel. A "loyal servant" is a term coined by many a people in relation to a footballer who has served his club and/or country for a long period of time whilst putting in consistent performances, but you don't watch (on a regular basis) or play football so you wouldn't know that. For the record I'm engaging in anymore conversation with you, it just always gets ugly.

We never have had a real conversation NewGNRnOldGNR. Plus I know enough of football to understand the game, the rules etc. And I know also enough of David Beckham's career to understand that the guy deserved better than this.
In the 'kroeg' I met an English gf and a Welsh friend: they bursted out in laughing when I told this story. Just saying, no need for a discussion at all.  :fpalm:

No it's not 'we' it's your countries team! Our team won the EC in 1988 by the way. Ever been in the Netherlands? No? I thought so.
I'm not gonna mention anything here: most countries our so self centered and dwell in their greatness, we are more open minded here for other cultures. So now fuck off as well!!!

Yep! Great model too, as a lot of athletes. That's how a lot of them earn some extra money since their salaries are so 'low'
Rejuvenating? I thought you knew all about it? Being so happy with Axl's jacket 'and he looks like back in the 90's'? Plus all the nip&tucks he done in his late 30's. Sad. That's a rejuvenation fail by the way.

well between 2004-2007 he scored 116 times with Real Madrid, and between 2008-2010 about 60 times with Milan and LA Galaxy. Pretty good for a midfielder especially at his age.

Not a chance in hell. i'll come back with the true figures shortly.
I hope, I do not wait.

Surely matches played and not goals scored?

This. 20 goals for "Real" in 116 apps.
I hope, I do not wait.

Axl constantly changes his style, unlike some others, Slash for example.

Honestly, I do not understand what you wanted to say...
