This song is labeled as "Checkmate" but Axl confirmed this as fake. Working titles are "The General", "Jackie Chan". But this is GnR without a doubt. Post your opinions on this song ! Great track? (I think so

I know, but i had been searching this forum for quite some time too, to find out how this piece was being received. My curiousity made me do this :p . Wonder why it didnt make the cut ..

Well according to Azoff, the weakest songs actually made the cut. I don't know how true this is because songs like TWAT just blow your mind. But if it is hopefully they see the light of day.

About Azoff saying the weakest tracks made the cut on CD, its all a matter of opinion, so I wouldnt pay much attention to that.

Its not much to go on-I bet the rest of the song is better.

Yeah that's my only gripe with it, sounds like his voice in 02 might have stood up to heavier songs if that snippet is anything to go by.

IMO...I for one...in some songs could find the message in it...I guess most would think this was for Duff, Slash and Matt..Izzy ..??.I think it is more personal than them...but what do I know...but I know I liked it...a lot...wish there was more of it to hear....

The instrumental part sounds a bit rough, unfinished, but Axl sounds great. It's definately a song with strong potential and it would be ashame if it wouldn't be used in a song on the next record. So far, I see, most of you share this opinion. But offcourse, as it is allready a couple of years old, it might be a song that didn't made the cut

How would it be a double album? And when Baz said 30 or so songs (forgot the actual number) bands routinely write and demo over 20 songs for what will end up as a 11 song album.

Axl himself has mentioned the concept of multiple albums a few times. In London Arena 2002, in th Rolling Stone january interview in 2006, and in his 06 chats

Well I bet the next album is basically done but has to be partially rerecorded to get DJ in it

What comes to songs that made it to CD I think Axl just put those in it that had leaked and then added a few more. I still believe the "big guns" exist and that the new album will come within a year.

If caution mean sign I understand it. The song is special & personal no doubt. Like it very much. the instrumental, too. I think it's Axl's, no I'm sure of it. Vocals are of course great. Axl is God!!!!!
