New Steven Adler Interview
« on: July 28, 2010, 11:07:00 PM »
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/interviews/interviews/steven_adler_im_finally_starting_to_get_the_recognition_that_i_deserve.html

I just saw him last night with Adler's Appetite down at the Milcreek Tavern in Philly, really phenomenal show!!!  They played mostly AFD Songs with a few others.

didn't bother myself to read past this:

"Drummer Steven Adler started GNR with his boyhood friend, Saul Hudson. He found Axl Rose and thought he would be the perfect singer for this new band he wanted to put together with his guitar-playing pal. So it came as a crushing blow when these same people kicked him out of his own band"

Slash & Steven were the last of the 5 two join the band and Steven was just called because they needed a Drummer and didn't want to delay a "tour" i love the groovie energy that Steven gave us on Appetite but this is just bullshit.

she kisses 2 guys: Shes a SLUT; he bangs 5 girls: Hes a LEGEND. Well, theres a simple way to see this; If you got a lock that can be open with many keys, that lock kinda sucks, right? But if you got a key that can open many locks, it's a master key;)

How can you start a band if you were one of the last to join?
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Fuck you, whore.

Johan is not nuts. At least not anymore nuts than the rest of us. He is ruled by his own psychology, which includes jealousy that he cannot sing that high.

that's what i was sayin'. Steven might have been the one who got Slash and himself into Hollywood Rose years before but he certainly did not start it.

He's sounding a lot more confident/arrogant this entire interview. For example:

When you heard what Matt Sorum ended up playing on the Use Your Illusion records were you thinking, “Oh, shit, I should have been playing on those songs”?
Oh, yeah. His were just half-assed, crappy versions. Nothing personal against the guy but he’s like a goddamn drum machine. He’s got no heart; he’s got no soul; he’s got no feel. And as life and the years have shown obviously I’m not the easiest drummer to replace. All I know is, Use Your Illusion would have been bigger than Appetite.

Do you really think so?

I know so and that’s hard to come by. Appetite sold like 85 million records around the world; Use Your Illusion would have been bigger.

that jumped off the page at me too.  im not sure what the interviewer was thinking.  i guess he doesnt know his history.  theres some good stuff in there though.  il always feel he was vastly superior to sorum, even tho i like sorum

I would never have put Steve down as an arrogant type until I read this. Basically he is saying his drumming would have made UYI bigger than AFD  :O
clean your ears...Nickelback's guitar work is awesome.

Him saying shit like that makes me dislike him, I kind of liked him as the under dog type but arrogance and obviously ignorance about drumming makes him seem like an arsehole. As if his drumming would have affected sales

One of my best mates is a drummer, and not much of a GNR fan (he loves the Chinese Democracy stuff though)

Anyway, way back in 93 or 94 I remember him saying how much he dug the "old drummer" and the other stuff didnt really do it for him.

Looking back-thats a fair assumption. I love UYI I and II but Steves playing brought something that when it wasnt there, stuck out like dogs balls.

Matt played it straight, and considering songs like November Rain or Estranged perhaps thats what best suited them-but Steve had the "feel" (wanky term,I know) but hey, unfortunately he couldnt behave himself and talking shit about Matt just makes him look petty, I mean it isnt Matts fault Steve fucked up and got fired.

Wow, great read
Steven comes accross as rather arrogant and big headed, but you can't deny the mans honesty

IMO Steven was perfect for Appetite and Matt for UYIs.

Ex. YCMB. Matt owned that song and it fitted in perfectly with Slash's guitar, and Axl's voice

As much as I want to call Steven an arrogant man, even Axl admitted in one of those interviews last year that he was never fully satisfied with the drum sound on the Use Your Illusion albums.

Well he's not wrong I remember it too.

Still doesn't mean his drumming would have had UYI sell more  :fpalm:

By the way, Appetite did not sell 85 million? Guns have a total sales on Nielson of 100 million and I doubt very much that UYI only sold 15 mil each worldwide

It's closer to 35 million than 85. The number 32 is in my head for some reason

Have I ever mentioned I don't like Matt? :paranoid:
