Finished Lisey's Story by King. Amazing, if a slow-burner.

I just started on "A Bend in the Road" by Nicholas Sparks. Recommended to me by a friend.

Fuck you, whore.

Johan is not nuts. At least not anymore nuts than the rest of us. He is ruled by his own psychology, which includes jealousy that he cannot sing that high.

MAZE RUNNER by James Dashner        (run or die in Spanish)

He doesnt recall a single thing but his name. The amnesia begins just with the story and the main character finds himself trapped in an elevator which goes who knows where and he has no idea about what he's doing in that elevator but feeling a weird paranoid instinct that tells him that in order to survive, he has to run and hide. the elevator finally gets to its final destination, and he finds himself in a gloomy, neverending backyard which walls are covered by huge twisted trees. Some strangers welcome him and tell him that now he's in "the area".

so far I only read 4 chapters. the overall atmosphere is really gloomy and it pretends to be a thriller, a suspence novel. sometimes it catches your attention, sometimesb it doesn't. As for the literary style (descriptions, word chice, etc) it's very simple, almost poor. BUt! I'm reading it in Spanish, maybe the one to blame is an unskillful translator... I'll still give it a chance, cause I never leave a book unread. (except for catcher in the rye, that one sucked  :giggle:)

pages: 398
released on: fall 2009

* Twentieth Century Fox bought the rights of this book to make a movie

The concept is good but as you said, the writing is poor. Very poor, in fact.
The second book, The Scorch Trials isn't any better.
Again it's a good concept but the writing is just as bad.

I thought it was just a bad translation. I did enjoy the ending though, but an ending doesnt make the whole book good.

The Scorch Trials is the name of it.
If you liked the first one enough, this one is slightly better but it again ends on a cliffhanger so there is gonna be at least 1 more book.

How to write a short story - by GarcĂa Marquez

what an utter piece of shit. it bores the shit out of me, and I can't even finish it. it completely disappointed me cause it doesnt give you any sort of tip or useful advice about building structures, improving your style, etc. which was what I was expecting to find. The whole book is like a dialogue between he and his writers and it only shows you the process about how HE comes up with his stories.

It might be interesting for his fans, but it's not useful at all for aspiring writers. I do enjoy his short stories though
