I've only just read '1984' for the first time.
A thought provoking novel, but ultimately a bit of a let down. The political references, and the way they mirror certain aspects of today are startling at times. But ultimately the story meanders off in the direction of some sort of 'tragedy'. And it's hard to swallow when you don't really feel a connection with the characters. It's sort of like they are the backdrop to a bigger picture. If that makes sense to anybody

Parts of it are genius, it's just as a cohesive whole, it's left me feeling underwhelmed.
