If you like Stephen King, you've got to read the Unabridged version of 'the stand'. It's fucking mega, definately his magnum opus in my view

I always read non-fiction books, especially about history. Scroll back a bit and check out the last book I was reading! :shy:

I appreciate that. Really. When you read non-fiction books, you can learn something.
All you need is just a little patience.

I've always had this thing where although (I know this sounds bigheaded but it isn't meant to be) I'm quite intelligent, I've never been able to have lessons. I have to do things my way, and if I have an interest in something, then I end up teaching myself about it because I'll read loads about it. History is a prime example; I don't think I ever learnt a single thing while in history in school, but I've learned absolutely loads about it through reading and watching documentaries. I'm what is known as a geek, but I try to be a cool geek!

Oracle Bones: A Journey Between China's Past and Present by Peter Hessler

After reading a book about Tibet it seemed only natural to read one about China. :giggle:

that's odd, I'm reading one about Tibet. And China. And Russia, and Afghanistan, and most of eurasia...since I'm reading about the great, great Timuchen (sp?), aka Genghis Khan

I'm about to finish Tolkien's The Silmarillion, which tells the history of Middle-Earth in the first era (LoTR is the 3rd era). Especcially in the first half things are written down quite annoying and some much history, names, places, fathers, sons and daughters are described, it drives you wild. After a while when you start recognizing the characters and locations it gets interesting. My version also contains 2 stories after "The Quest for the Silmarilions", about the fall of the people of Númenor (up until the end of the second era) and the Rings of Power, going all the way through the rise of Sauron and the Lord of the Rings story.
