Why do quite a lot of the vocals on songs on live era still suck if it was re-recorded?  ;)

the SCOM vocals are from the version of SCOM on the Big Daddy soundtrack

I've always thought and I could be totally wrong, but I assumed that most of the AFD songs(plus YCBM and November Rain) vocals on Live Era were from the re-recording that Axl did of AFD..most of the vocals sound similar compared to the SCOM recording

the first half of Big Daddy version literally is the Live Era recording up until halfway through the last solo, then it switched to a new studio version recorded by the then-current band. Yes, alot of Axl's studio vocals from the unreleased re-recorded AFD were transferred to Live Era and Slash also re-did most of his parts in a separate studio session and then later denied it for some reason.

Even the then-current members added uncredited parts to Live Era. The backing vocals on Mr. Brownstone are Robin Finck for sure

Agreed on Civil War but I think Double Talkin' Jive is just a kind of the song you dont want to put its live version on an album, seems like it wasnt created for live performance, vocals just dont fit at all.

Did I read this right? Dtj is best live, thealbum version sucks balls in comparision.

I did not know it had been rerecorded, do you know exactly what songs were fixed?
Axl Sounded great on the illusions tour, maybe not 91 but 92 n 93
I actually thought his 92/93 voice was the worst he sounded during the entire OldGNR years. imo he sounded the best 88/89 ish and 91 was awesome too, from the videos/audio recordings I have heard from 87and earlier (usually shit quality tho) his voice sounds.... I don't know, not ready? not yet completely figured out? I don't know but i at least find it too raw yet not necessarily too raspy (but it's Axl so it still sounds better than most singers) and in 92-93 the whole band sounded worse than earlier, Gilby couldn't be Izzy, Slash was usually so drunk/doped he could hardly play, Duff and Matt weren't as bad as Slash but still were worse than they can/could be and Axl's voice sounded so tired, I really got to say having all these extra musicians (the hot backing vocals chicks, the guy that played the harmonica on Bad Obsession and so on) did a ton on that tour, if you'd cut all of them out they would probably have sounded like shit most of the time.

They were pretty much burned out by 92-93.

Much respect to Teddy Zig Zag Andreadis but T&R made stuff like pretty tied up sound like rubbish IMO.

I love that song, but I despise the version on Live Era, its fucking horrible.
