it's bigger than LOTR was I would say
but that is an oversight on my part and one I meant to address. I do think that too will be held in high esteem for the forseeable future.
i really don't think it was as big as LOTR culturally it isn't financially it isn't and in personal opinion it was nowhere near as good a film.
you are right about it being the best of the superhero series but look at the competition...
the hulk? bad.
Spider man? started off fairly good in the first one but the hype just died for no apparent reason.
Iron Man? good film i thought but nothing ground breaking.
Transformers? does this even count? megan fox is stated as the number 1 reason to watch that sorta says it all really.
Daredevil? wank film
Electra? daredevil part 2
Xmen series? i genuinely liked them but they did deviate from the story completely and many backstories were ignored.
i know i'm missing a few out but my point is that with this many films of this nature it was only a matter of time before something more pure and refined was made hence TDK.
Tolkiens LOTR will always be a much bigger film and i'm not comparing. Although maybe LOTR would be even bigger if Elijah Wood had overdosed half way through return of the king.
but at least we can agree twilight and it's ilk such as harry potter are fads that will die out soon enough.
