Unless you're abusive dogs don't have it bad at all. Cats too.

they can't range freely, define territory, act like the predator they are meant to be, establish a pack hierarchy with their own kind, they're fed way more than is natural and are subject to an urban and unnatural environment.

no different to anything else we keep really.
Apparently a new Amy Winehouse 'Greatest Hits' collection is coming out, but the tinfoil and spoons aren't included.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Fuck you, whore.

Johan is not nuts. At least not anymore nuts than the rest of us. He is ruled by his own psychology, which includes jealousy that he cannot sing that high.

Depends where you live IMO, my dogs know our backyard is their territory and defend it against anyone that comes over. City dogs are fucked of course, but I live in the country.

If there's a hierarchy here it would be Me -> Bernie -> Rocky.

Quote
Feral dogs are primarily scavengers, with studies showing that unlike their wild cousins, they are poor ungulate hunters, having little impact on wildlife populations where they are sympatric. However, feral dogs have been reported to be effective hunters of reptiles in the Galápagos Islands, and free ranging pet dogs are more prone to predatory behavior toward wild animals.

Domesticated dogs are far removed from their wolf ancestors - they do have their natural instincts but only working dogs really need to be worked these days. Keeping a collie or blue heeler would be a disgrace in a house that doesn't work them.

But anyway I take my dogs out to kill rabbits all the time (whenever I go for a run, 3-4 times a week) so I'd hardly say they aren't allowed at least a simulated natural dogs life. Lots of people here do similar, but I know what you're referring to.

Assholes with golden retrievers that keep them inside and do nothing with them at all - maybe walk them once a month. My sister has a chihuahua and some retarded toy dog and they can't even jump, I don't even know how it's possible but they can't :retard:

May as well be handbag dogs, it's disgusting.

yes but it's not the natural span of the territory they scent on walks but it is impossible for the animal to maintain which is unnatural in itself

it's not the same as a 15 strong pack of the animals.

i would disagree but then i do see enough dogs with neurological fuck ups and personality disorders since part of my diploma involves working with dogs.

but we are suggesting captivity is a poor substitute for real life, and what is captivity if not a form of simulation?

the wonders of genetics

as for the study of attacks on ungulates the animals chosen were strays, a wolf pack teaches it's members to hunt however the instinct to waste as little energy for as much gain is prominent, even wolves don't hunt for reindeer every time. Equally size of the dog is important as is size of pack and it's hard to say a dog wouldn't be able to if it was integrated into a wolf pack, the studies involved only suggest the animal doesn't inherently know how to take down large prey and not that they wouldn't be capable/willing.

Dogs are no different to any other pet...i advocate keeping anything that can be kept successfully in captivity...for example dolphins or whales which don't take to captivity well whatsoever...nor can they be bred in captivity...remembe r that when you visit a dolphin park.

but a dog, cat, rodents, rabbit, ferret, snake, lizard, tortoise, fish...whatever. There's no justification that one is better to keep than another because it's 100% a case of how it's kept not what it is.

Can't say I disagree with any of that really.

The thing with my sisters dogs though - I'm certain it's because she doesn't encourage them to. If they want up on the couch, they're picked up etc. if they don't wanna walk, they drag their heels and get picked up, it's fucking embarrassing and sad for the dogs. They're definitely ruined animals. I'm at least confident if my dogs did run away or something they could catch food - but these dogs... :fpalm:

Her tag says Diva on it, and let me tell you she is the queen of the house.  My favorite is the shirt she wears that says "Get your nose out of my ass!"
