K, I haven't actually touched one yet. Simply never had the chance, I've just always found it weird to have a reptile as a pet, it's just how I think, HOWEVER, shall the opportunity appear, I shall stroke your snake.

haha they're specialist pets i guess, definitely not for everyone. I've been in love with reptiles as pets since i was 4 years old when i got a pet gecko for my birthday and that little 15cm gecko has now led to 20ft species of python.

So for me it's pretty normal because i grew up with the hobby and it was a hobby i chose when asked what type of pet i wanted for my birthday.

It's got me in a lot of trouble over the years though, had a few people from the other end of the street come knock on my door to yell at me about keeping snakes that endanger their cats and rabbits. Any outside time they get is carefully watched and on my property so if her rabbits and cats are at risk then my defence in court would be that the animal was supervised and that her pet was trespassing (something i have no issue with at all).

as i say most people are fine with them but a few make threats about what happens if their animals get preyed on. If something did happen there is no grounds to have the snake destroyed and if they attempt something outside of court i'll call the police for the relevant charges.

For now I just keep hanging around the reptile shop in Aberdeen and admire the chameleons. And the big ass monitor lizard. She's also just had a load of baby corn snakes and some baby beardies delivered which are hilarious to watch.

i dont have any pets right now. but im going to be getting a pet in July.... im still in a toss up between buying two rats (not mice or small rats. the ones that grow pretty big) or buying two birds.

ive already owned two budgie birds and then once they died, i bought two rats.... but now that you mention it... i do remember feeling alot closer to the rats than i did the birds.... its settled. Rats!!

no arguments here dude, the chameleon i keep is pretty fantastic and the black throat monitor at work is like a big scaley dog, baby beardies are a little irritating if you're cleaning out the work vivs-30 baby beardies all interested in everything + hoover cleaning the glass runners = potentially bad day at the office.

This is such a beautiful creature. I'm totally in love with it. Awesomeness!! I've printed these two photos and they hang here at work. I work for a fashion label and you know why they breed these beauties right? I'm totally against it! I will never ever wear their skin as shoes or a bag. The label also use fur. I hate that with a passion too. Fur is hard to work with so it's decided that this is not "Adriana's specialty". I just can't do it.....

hey thanks, i'm certainly very happy to have them.

it's cool that you printed her off i have a small montage of photos of all my animals past and present i'm working to create...problem is i don't think i will ever complete it. Got another 3 snakes coming next season, all designer morphs i'll be breeding. one of them will be bred to Freya here but not until both snakes are at a suitable age. And they are all going to be above 14ft long easily. Females closer to 18 maybe 20+.


I personally am anti fur in most contexts, the python "breeding" facility is typically a front for something worse. Indonesia export hundreds of thousands of snake skins of this species every year, it's often fronted as breeding because that helps considerably with CITES legislation. The amount of effort and money it costs to breed these guys is immense and a skinner would never make a significant profit off of this method.

and i can promise you that none of the snakes like my little female have been made into clothing to my knowledge because she's a morph, there was ONE albino found in the wild and all the subsequent baby albinos can be traced to that individual (this one pretty directly, the father of this snake was from the first albino X het [<<<means recessive in the DNA but not visually present] albino ever created.

so really her grandfather was the first albino. She's a true gem we usually get america's scraps for snakes because they have the best facilities, breeders and a larger quota for importing retics than us so they're more likely to find something unusual and create something with it but my friend James who produced these guys and runs the best facility for these snakes in the country is a good friend of Bob Clark (invented more morphs than anyone else) and this lady's father was a parting gift when he came home from the USA...this was 10 years ago...the next thing likely to appear on the market will be piebald (these colours but on a retic instead of a ball http://www.constrictors.com/images/BallPythons/Pied/Pied31.jpg).

Chez...I think your snake is beautiful...since Belle passed on...for the first time in many years, we have no pets in the house.....been trying to think of a nice pet. No more dogs...hurts to bad when their life ends. No birds, there boring and way to messy....I have developed an allergy to cats....a snake would terrorize my daughter's life...fish are boring.....so what do you suggest??? I would like an iguana...but I don't know if that's realistic...you do reptiles...how hard is it to make an iguana comfortable and happy..

The common iguana species in captivity is Iguana Iguana they are typically very friendly but it's incredibly difficult to keep them. Viv size is going to be about 8 high, 8 long and 6 wide and there idea of a good day is a day when nothing happens different, they love routine they become aggressive or stubborn when something isn't kept the way they want it.

they're also more risk to small children than large snakes are due to the fact children are loud, fast moving and energetic...spooks the lizard and they will whip out at them-spike our old iguana got me across the face full pelt by 3-4 foot of tail and i assure you that bloody hurts. Also there are issues with children and hygiene it's like touching raw chicken in the severity of the food poisoning carried on their skin. It's on all lizards really but i'll through a few names out there and if any appeal to you i will gladly give you some more information:

LIZARDS:
Bearded Dragons
Most Species of ground geckos such as Leopard Gecko's or Banded gecko's
Royal (ball) pythons
corn snakes
common boas at adult size will make very tame pets although i never leave kids with exotics as it resorts in something somehow fucking up but i say the boa because large adults are usually really docile and friendly.
any form of tortoise

to remove 99% of the risk of snake bites you can use snake hooks (ask at a pet store they should deliver, avoid collapsible versions because that's exactly what they do-collapse.
