thank you :D

the other reggae artists are fairly well known and play straight reggae
i figured i'd throw in lee scratch perry and his genius madness into the mix as well

Fuck yeah. I've got Arkology, and love some of the remixes and dubs. Seemed like he'd be a pretty cool guy to hang with

And I reckon Tom Morello is underrated. People think he hides behind an effects pedal - fuck that shit, the guy bludgeons his effects pedal into doing what he wants. Watch this shit:

I think it is high time for a bit of class around here, don't you?

yeah man, lee scratch perry is one cool dude....almost as cool as miles davis....and on a par with him in talent

Oh mann, on par with Miles Davis in talent would be pretty mind-blowing.  Going back to check that guy out again.  Other than Jeff Beck's jazz fusion albums, Bitches' Brew is the bees knees.

bitches brew is in fact the bees knees....lee scratch perry is on another plane of consciousness sometimes....

Youtubing...

Oh, and speaking of Jeff Beck, Tal Wilkenfeld is a great bassist.  Great, great, great.  And young.  And pretty. =)

there are not many musicians who i consider geniuses from the  last 50-60 years

miles davis, prince, lee scatch perry, frank zappa come to mind immediately...i'd have to think a bit more when i wasn't so drunk but i put those 4 in the upper echelon of music

I'm going to have to keep listening more here, because right now, I'm definitely missing something.  Prince and Miles Davis I'd definitely give two thumbs up too.  Definitely, they're both incredibly talented.  But Frank Zappa, who I've dabbled in many times, and now Lee Scratch Perry, I'm missing something with.  Maybe I just don't know what I'm listening to well enough.  Don't worry, I'll keep at it.

I'd definitely agree with Lee Scratch Perry. One of the most influential people in music in the 20th century.

You speak the truth. I consider Izzy to be extremely overrated in every fashion except song-writing ability.

Really?  He doesn't even play lead, does he?  Enemy in Me is a great song though.

Oh and McCoy I view the same as Thunders, maybe underrated by those that don't know of him, but he's pretty much god to those that do.

Yeah he plays lead on most songs though I think Lizzy played lead on a few songs on Lit Up/Let Down

Good Point, I guess you could call them unknown outside of the genre but worshiped among the fans of the genre.

I thought Lizzy did most of the solos and Nikki did most of the main riffs.  Learn something every day I guess!

Andy Mcoy kicked ass when he was Iggy Pops guitarist in the late 80s (eg King Biscuit 87)

To me, one of the most underrated guitarists is Dave Stewart, both solo and with his partner ship with Annie Lennox in the Eurythmics. He can play and shred as fast as anyone, deservedly a guitar god, but he blends into the band, playing what is required for the song, not what is required for his ego.

Excellent choice Ronws.

Jake E Lee-the overlooked Ozzy guitarist.
He is equal to RR and blows Zakk Wylde out of the water.

Also Mick Ronson (Spiders From Mars/Ian Hunter) Glen Buxton (Alice Cooper Group) both of a similiar style and both adly deceased.
