Hulk Hogan And Eric Bischoff Join TNA!
« on: October 30, 2009, 02:06:51 AM »
It's 1994 all over again.

At least that's what TNA Wrestling is hoping after signing deals this week with Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.
When he was running World Championship Wrestling 15 years ago, Bischoff made the blockbuster move of signing Hogan after the latter had a falling out with World Wrestling Entertainment. The Hulkster helped WCW garner mainstream recognition and even surpass WWE as the nation's preeminent company.

But under Bischoff's watch, WCW then suffered a rapid decline in 1999 and was out of business two years later. Bischoff went to work for WWE as an on-screen character before focusing on the television entertainment production company he formed with former actor Jason Hervey ("The Wonder Years'').

Hogan has remained in the media spotlight for reasons besides wrestling. Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) branched into reality television with "Hogan Knows Best,'' which chronicled a family far more dysfunctional off-camera than presented on the show. Hogan's son Nick served time in jail for his part in an auto accident that left his passenger permanently disabled, while wife Linda Bollea filed for what has become a divorce uglier than the villains that The Hulkster once dispatched.

Hogan had toyed with joining TNA before, only to use the company as leverage before re-signing with WWE. But it finally appears WWE owner Vince McMahon has lost interest in working with the character he helped make grappling's biggest star.

With financial problems mounting, the 56-year-old Hogan began branching back into pro wrestling last year with a reality show training D-list celebrities like Todd Bridges and Dustin Diamond. Hogan and Bischoff also booked a November tour of Australia and planned to promote shows overseas chock with ex-WWE performers that include Ric Flair.
Because of numerous health problems, Hogan is likely to assume a figurehead commissioner role in TNA. A slew of Hogan and Bischoff chronies are now expected to surface in TNA as well.

Unlike during the 1990s wrestling wars between WWE and WCW, Hogan's arrival won't make TNA a legitimate contender for grappling supremacy. WWE has established itself as the industry's top company and is in no imminent danger of losing that spot.

Hogan, though, will give TNA much greater visibility than it has now. After seven years of steady growth, TNA ratings on Spike TV have grown stagnant -- roughly two million fans watch each week -- and pay-per-view audiences are small. Hogan should provide at least a short-term boost. Spike also will benefit from having a working relationship with Bischoff and Hervey for future programming deals.

Hogan's first TNA interview airs on tonight's episode of Impact (9 p.m. EST). For more information, visit www.tnawrestling.co m.

MORE WRESTLING NEWS: Not even former WWE champion Brock Lesnar is tougher than the flu. Lesnar was forced to pull out of his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title defense Nov. 21 against Shane Carwin because of illness. UFC hopes to reschedule the bout for early 2010, with January 2 in Las Vegas a strong possibility ... WWE will soon be without two members of the McMahon family in its day-to-day ranks. Shane McMahon has announced plans to leave the company in January and "pursue outside ventures," according to a statement released on the company's corporate web site. The 39-year-old McMahon was the company's executive vice president of global media and an occasional in-ring performer. McMahon's mother Linda recently resigned her post as WWE's chief executive officer to run for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut. That leaves Vince and his daughter Stephanie, who heads the scriptwriting crew, as the only two McMahons remaining from the grappling company started by the late Jess McMahon in the 1920s.

I loved Hulk's "Hollywood Hogan" character with W.C.W. His feud with Goldberg was immense.

Ric Flair is rumoured to be joining T.N.A as well. Bring back W.C.W!

WCW was the worst show in the world. How they managed to fuck it up with that much talent on board is beyond me, but they managed it. Probably by having pish like the KISS Demon...

:O W.C.W was immense, it closely follows the W.W.F in my oppinion. W.C.W had the likes of Sting, Goldberg, Bam Bam B, Hollywood Hogan, Scott Steiner, Booker T, Rey Mysterio Jnr, Lex Luger, Chris Benoit and Jeff Jarrett. It was brilliant, bring back W.C.W!

Precisely. How they managed to fuck it up with all those stars is beyond me. Oh no, wait a minute, it's not. Eric Bischoff and Vince russo write less believable and interesting storylines than the average 5 year old, and Hulk Hogan is an egotistical twatbag who won't put anyone over. That's how they lost to Raw, and that's why TNA is now royally fucked.

You are very very right. Bischoff could do a good enough job there, make it marginly better, but Russo and Hogan? Fuck me. Do I hear the sound of nails in a coffin?

Definatley. Tommy Walsh is going a bit tits on it actually, there's more nails in TNA's coffin right now than in something with lots of nails!

Eric is older and wiser and has had time to reflect on his W.C.W failures. He won't make the same mistakes this time around.

Fantastic metaphor

Eric is older and wiser and has had time to reflect on his W.C.W failures. He won't make the same mistakes this time around.

Hey but Hogan is a dickhead. He won't let anyone outshine him. As far as Hogan is concerned, Hogan is number 1. And Russo, soon they'll be having everything on a poll matches.

Russo's on the way out. As for your second statement regarding Paul Heyman, absolutely yes. Heyman is fantastic, he's the man responsible for Brock Lesnar's success within the W.W.E and he is also responsible for E.C.W's success overall!

Meh, I'm not to fuss on Heymen either. I'd just get some decent story writers first. I mean some of the shit TNA churn out is unbelieveable.

I reckon the Hogan/Bischoff partnership will really give T.N.A the kick it needs. Hulk has previously stated that he felt the W.W.E is "boring" and intended to start his own franchise with Bischoff. Instead of starting their own franchise they are taking over the T.N.A scene and have obviously out plans together for the show.

But Hogan's a shit booker. I don't think it will work. I'd love it too because another Monday night war would force WWE to make wrestling interesting again and I start watching it again.... maybe. I just can't stomach the shit the put out these days. It#s fucking awful.

Yeah hogan made the comment the wwe is boring but tna is the worst ive ever seen it , back in 2005 it was fantastic and had a lot of momentum but now it kinda sucks.

For me i think bishoff being there is a positive , the guy could bring something new to tna but has for hogan you will guarentee he will always be in the main event picture and that is just plain wrong for a guy on the wrong end of 50 , tna needs to push there best fresh talent not have say hogan or foley in the main even picture that is what helped kill wcw in the first place.

Heyman is a fucking legendary booker. How he got ECW as big as it was with the quite frankly terrible wrestlers at his disposal is all down to his booking and ability to cut promos. When he cuts a promo or announces on matches, he gets wrestlers over. That's why TNA need him. Russo is the worst booker in the world, and Bischoff isn't far behind. Hogan just wants to book himself the title over and over again. The guy won't lose, and just wants to humiliate other people. Like delivering his boot to the face and spending five minutes taunting with the crowd and expecting the other guy just to lay there. the man is a wanker.

When as Mr. America he was beaten and therefore according to the storyline kicked out of the WWE. Furthermore he was then taunted by Mr McMahon when Vince hissed "You're Fired!", surely that wasn't egotistical.

One example in a career of egotism. The guy would not lose to anyone. The worst example is when he was kayfabe friends with Bret Hart. Bret was facing Yokozuna at Wrestlemania, and after a full match was beaten (although Yokozuna had to cheat). Hogan then got it stipulated that he would face yokozuna immediately, and beat him in seconds, making Bret look like an idiot.

Don't mention wrestling and storylines in the same sentence, they don't match.

For a start, the only decent wrestlers still going are HHH, Undertaker and Kane (I don't watch anything but WWE and even that's boring as shit- so whoever is left in other fantasy leagues I don't really care) and they have some of the worst bio's in the history of human story telling.

Wrestling might be worth watching if it was half realistic and wasn't based around gimmicky personalities. Hell, even looking back at WWF it was all just one big broad selection of different cliques.

Hopefully it's dead in a couple decades.

HHH and Kane are both shit though. HHH used to be good until he got lazy and a load of backstage power. And storylines and wrestling do go - how fucking great is it when you get someone who can cut promos and wrestle put in a great storyline? It's fuckin awesome. Or, at least, it used to be when I was younger. People like Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Eddie Gurrero were the dogs bollocks. And they were given decent storylines.

They're the only appealing wrestlers though, the rest look like a bunch of repugnant twats.

I usually turn it off as soon as the big name wrestlers leave the screen (so it usually lasts 5 minutes..)

But really, do they need storylines? Does every single match need someone to enter the ring on a 2 count and smash someone with a chair? Do they all need stupid cut scene bullshit like the Hardy Boys? That was embarrassing :argh

I swear every time someone is about to win a hard fought match, some moron runs in with a chair or some shit. Throw out the retarded rule book, the script and wrestle like real men.
