Barney Bubbles remembered
« on: September 02, 2009, 12:55:54 PM »
The Hawklords are to headline an all-day event in memory of the late, influential artist Barney Bubbles. This happens at the 229 Club in London on November 29.

On the night, The Hawklords will feature Adrian Shaw, Alan Davey, Harvey Bainbridge, Jerry Richards, Martin Griffin, Nik Turner, Ron Tree, Steve Swindells and Terry Ollis. They’ll perform Hawkwind’s 1973 stage extravaganza, Space Ritual, updated to 2009, supported by The New Bubblettes dancers. There will also be lighting designs inspired by Liquid Len & The Lensmen, a stalwart of early Hawkwind stage performances.

The bill is also to include 1970s Notting Hill band Quintessence, Damned founder-member Brian James fronting The Brian James Gang, Nik Turner’s Inner City Unit and The Imperial Pompadours, the band created by Barney Bubbles.
The Pentameters Players will perform Robert Calvert’s play, The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam’s Dice. And completing the line-up are Jerry Fitzgerald/Lol Coxhill’s ‘Fre-Ex’, Trikimiki’s ‘3-D Space-Warp’ and DJ Jeff Dexter.

Barney Bubbles died on November 14, 1983. Nowadays, he’s particularly recalled for his work with Hawkwind and also for Stiff Records.

Tickets are £20 in advance, or £25 on the door.
