This is how I see it:
Axl wanted to move the band in a new direction. Slash did not. Therefore, they argued. And each one has a legitimate claim that the other was trying to control the band, since they were arguing over the artistic direction of the band. So neither of them is lying. The difference is, Slash has been very active in the press, so the press will side with him over Axl any day of the week if they think it will keep getting them stories. I really think it's pointless trying to lay the blame at anyone's door - it was a musical disagreement, which led to Slash leaving the band. Which on it's own sounds fine. Like if you don't like a job, you resign. But the media got hold of the story and ran with it, until we are in the position we are in now. So if you want to blame anyone, blame the media.
well that gives me an excuse to throw in another quote from slash
"I'd like to state, very simply once more why I chose not to continue with guns n' roses,so that no1 feels the to ask again.......1) the constant disrespect for everyone involved,by going on late night after night after night, 2) the legal manipulation that Axl forced on us,from ownership of the name, to downgrading us contractually to hired hands, and 3) losing Izzy and Steven, who were such an integral part of the bands sound and character.....witho
ut them the band no longer had its original chemistry."(and btw slash was very much FOR Steven's dismissal)
slash also states (although this is not a direct quote,as I'm just reading through the book for a second time, after digesting Axl's comments)......that he would of been prepared to an industrial album if Axl wanted to even though Axl has stated this was never an option, and that all of the demos done were based around slash' blues based guitar work,Slash has been asked to respond,to Axl' remarks recently and he said something along the lines of......ummm ye whatever its taken him so long to say it that it don't really matter anymore..........ye right!....thats why slash only went public in his book in 2007! and charged me the sum of ten pound 87 pence, for the privilege!
