Been there done that, once or twice. In America, we use 120 V for most plugs and in commercial and industrial applications, we often use 277 V for lighting, though you can also encounter 120 V lighting, as well. I've been hit by 120 V so many times it feels only like a nerve twitch. 277, however, hurts and gets my attention.

I once took 120 V across the chest for about 3 seconds.  Anyway, now my unit glows in the dark and I don't have to turn the light on to pee. Old electricians never die, we just can't find our shorts.

I've heard that joke told about many different people. The punch line is the same. By the way, my heritage is german, english, irish, and scottish.

But I did goof really good one time. In 2003, I was working on a school and the masonry boss was from Scotland. And my workmate, John, is of scottish ancestry. And has traced his clan back to the clan McCuan. The mason boss, Bobby, and I were discussing this. And I told him my clan name was McCracken. He said, really? I said, yes, as in Kiss McCracken. Ha ha, right? I found out later that his last name was McCracken (no joke). But he was cool about it. His extension cords kept getting messed up so I kept putting new ends on and he kept my electrical pipes from getting buried in the walls.

Im am disgusted by this. Is that what the Aussies really think of the Irish? Whatever happened the good old sterotype of being drunks and having pots of gold? Now we are poor electrians and dumb.

Im heading there for a year in 9 weeks and im going to reconsider my options me thinks.

You have to remember that Australia started out as a penal colony. I don't know why any one would want to ban penises, but there you go.
