After defeating James Blake yesterday (6:2, 6:7, 6:4) and Tommy Robredo today (6:1, 6:4) Rafael Nadal advanced in the quarterfinal of the Shangai 1000 Masters.

Tomorrow he plays Ljubicic and then he will probably meet with Robin Soderling, the Swed who ended Rafa's domination in Roland Garros this year. It wil be a hell of a match.

Rafa's not in best shape, unforced errors are flying all over the place  :), hope he still makes it.

PS - Novak Djokovic is now officailly NR. 3 of world tennis. Andy Murray is now 4th.

Rafael Nadal advanced in the finals of the Shanghai 1000 Masters.

His quarter- and semi-final match were a bit odd though... In the quarters he went head to head with Croatian Ivan Ljubicic and lost the first set 3:6. He recovered in the second and won the set 6:3. At the beginning of the 3rd set at 0:0 Ljubicic was having problems with his thigh muscles and retired from the match.

In the semis today it went smother for Rafa, taking the first set against a fellow Spaniard with 6:1. In the second Rafa was up 3:0 when Lopez retired from the match because of pain in his leg.

Tomorrow Nadal plays against Davydenko and has an opportunity to win his first masters after the injury.

VAMOS!

A few minutes ago Novak Djokovic defeated 4 time champion Roger Federer in his hometown Basel, Switzerland. Roger was facing his 20th consecutive win but Nole was too good today and won 6:4, 4:6, 6:2.
This was Novak's 4th tournament win this year. Basel is an ATP 500 Masters.

Today I witnessed the worst performance from Rafael Nadal I have ever seen. He still won though. Huh.  :hmpf

In the second round of the BNP Paribas 1000 Masters in Paris he went head to head with fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro. In their lifetime series Rafa was up 4:0, this being their 5th match.

Almagro started great and won the first set 6:3 after taking a serve from Rafa. In the second it was more of a tie and then suddenly Rafa made too many mistakes at 5:5 and lost his serve. Almagro was up 6:5, serving for the match. With three consecutive points he was up 40:0 with 3 MATCH POINTS. Nadal managed to save all three and then another two, bringing to total 5 saved match points. Rafa eventually tied the score 6:6 and won the tie break, taking the match into the 3rd set.

In the first game he broke Almagro's serve and I thought everything will be normal now. Yeah right. Almagro broke Rafa's serve twice taking the lead 3:1. Another tie followed at 3:3 and then another two consecutive games for Almagro for 5:3, one game from the win and he was on the serve again.
Rafa broke his serve again and tied the score 5:5 with his serve.
Perhaps not the main reason but a big reason for sure was Almagro's pain in his thigh and by the end of the match he pretty much couldn't run at all. Rafa won 7:5, after 4 consecutive games. If there wasn't for an injury Almagro could have maybe kicked out the 2nd seeded player in his first match of this tournament. Fuck that shit.  :D

Rafa get better soon.

What almost happened to Nadal yesteday happened to Federer.

Federer was eliminated by Benettau in the second round with 3:6, 7:6, 6:4.

Though I'm no Roger fan he will be missed in this tournament. Tennis just isn't the same without him.  :)

Incredible performance by the Serbian, he's currently the best player on tour. Without a doubt.  :)

I've watched every game for the past few tournaments and I've been watching this finals closely.

Davydenko is currently so good that nobody can beat him. I expect him and Söderling to reach the finals and I think Davydenko will win the match again. With that, he will become world NR.6.

The most surprising thing is that players ranked 1,2,3,4 are out. It only shows how tied the current male tennis is and it's a thrill to watch every match.

Don't feel bad for Roger, he secured the NR.1 spot again and that's something. But I believe next year it will be a demise for Roger, he'll be 29 and this year he played in 4 grand slam finals. It will be hard to achieve that again, and by the ATP points system you lose points when you don't repeat the results from last year so... It will be very interesting.
