Greatest Hits
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:34:27 PM »
This album is a disgrace to Guns N'Roses. I don't know who chose the songs but I know there's a lot of people out there who are not interested in a band but they only buy greatest hits. And it seems as if Guns N'Roses had to put 5 covers on their album because they don't have enough good songs.
It's So Easy, Nightrain, Estranged, Rocket Queen and I could go on, they're all missing. The ending of the record is terrible

anyway, the reason I made this topic is that after 4 months since the release Chinese Democracy disappeared from the Top30 chart in Slovenia, while almost 5 years since the release Greatest Hits is back on Nr. 28.
And that's sad... :paranoid:
The average listener buys Greatest Hits and this album does not do justice to GN'R. It should be banned

yeah, I agree with you, Axl never intended to release it, it was like: since Axl was taking a long time to release CD, the label decided to do  GH,. I thik there's too much TSI in it,

Look at the title of the CD. It says: 'Guns n' Roses' Greatest Hits', doesn't it? That means it has - guess what? - the greatest hits of Guns n' Roses, not the 'specially crafted Guns n' Roses CD especially for YOU and nobody else'.  :disgust:

Did I say anything like that? This must be like the dumbest reply ever. From your words, I'm guessing, you're the most fucked up GN'R fan out there if the Greatest Hits' setlist represents this band's best work to you...

but i agree with fan, it isnt the best track list

Yes, that's all I wanted to say... The problem for me is basically two songs from Spaghetti, Sympathy for the devil and Live and let die that should be replaced with Nightrain, It's so easy, Mr. Brownstone and Estranged.
That'd be pretty much the best album ever. And maybe add Rocket queen on there too :D

I hate this album. It's obvious NONE of the GN'R members past or present had any say in the shit track list.

it's a good album, but it has the potential to be so much better.

I mean, how could they not put Estranged on there, for Christ's sake? I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall during the meeting to decide the setlist.

and also the fact that all the band members hate it with a passion makes me feel ever-so-slightly dirty for owning it.

I think it was good to have some stuff from TSI, just to represent their whole catalgoue. I think Ain't It Fun by itself would've been fine
As for sympathy for the devil, i think its good they included it, as it would be hard to get hold of anywhere unless you buy the CD single from ebay or something (Like i did)

But not including Estranged just deserves a good smack!! It went to #16 on some charts, so why they didnt include it in place of another song (Since i dont have you perhaps, or live and let die) is beyond me

Yes the setlist was a bit strange, alot of unbelievable songs not on there.
However Axl did all he could to prevent this album being released.
"Greatast Hit" albums in my opinion are released when an artist/artists are finished with writing new material and simply want to take a back seat and make a some money by re-releasing their hits. (Omitting Michael Jackson)
However ironically the Guns still are writing and touring so a "Greatast Hits" album is damaging to their reputation.
Geffen only did this to make money, and were frustrated that Axl wasn't releasing material, when all they needed was a little patience as Chinise Democracy was about to be finished an released.

I've never really cared for the GH. It was never aimed at GNR fans anyway but at getting newer fans discovering GNR for the first time. The only songs that could be considered were the ones released. Estranged was probably dropped as it might be looked on as being too long.

Greatest Hits wasn't even published by Guns N' Roses?

All they did, is looked for the "most listened" songs, and added them all to one cd?

How on earth, is that a "disgrace"?

greatest hits are based on chart positions not on how good the songs are.

'best of''s are normally chosen by the band

it don't really matter.

It was the 1st album I owned from GNR...so, I really like it, got me into Guns.

for me its pretty perfect but some like Aint It Fun and Sympathy shouldnt be on there though

throw in Estranged and Nightrain and you've got a killer album

well the tale is that geffen wanted to release GH as they'd been waiting so long on Chinese Democracy, Axl Slash and Duff all tried to block the release, so much so that the case went to court. The court held that as Axl hadnt supplied a new album for so many years, it was only fair that geffen should be allowed to release GH
the injunction therefore wasnt granted, so the album was able to come out

Is it a cheap product meant to make Geffen a quick dollar...absolutely, but most of the younger people I know got into Guns N' Roses because of this album, so I'd say it did its job. Almost everyone I know who owned this album went on to buy Appetite for Destruction, if not the Use Your Illusion albums as well.
