If Matt Sorum really wanted to teach drummers how to drum, he should have said "watch how Steven Adler does it", and then looped that statement over and over again for 42 minutes on the DVD.  That would be better then any lesson that fucking fraud tried to teach.

nah don't say that. i like Steven WAY more then Matt, but you'd be kidding yourself if you said that Matt couldn't drumm. he is really good.

Really good? If he was "really good", he would have chops, he'd have a sense of polyrhythm and wouldn't be playing such an easy beat and such a straight forward "fills". He's got no sense of sticking techniques, no limb independence and no sense of time and meter.

dude i never said he was the best, but saying he's bad is just wrong.

i think he did OK in guns and pretty damn good in the cult, and not bad at all in VR.

come on max, i have to disagree with you. Matt Sorum is a great dummer, I too prefer Steven, but Matt is much more skilled than Adler

Its like comparing Malmsteen and Slash, Malmsteen is def. more skilled, but i''l always prefer Slash, because of his bluesy style, and I think he makes better songs, y'know?

but yeah, Matt is more skilled, but he dont have Adler's grove, and he never got Mr. Brownstone right, just like every other drumemr, because only Steven plays Mr. Brownstone and Rocket Queen the way they should be played.

That's because Matt Sorum lacks a distinctive "groove" to his drum playing, it's one thing to be an average drummer with no chops, but it's an absolute disgrace when you lack the groove for a song. Steven Adler on the other hand, lacked even more chops, but he made up for that with his feel for the songs. Which, even though it's nothing special, is absolutely essential when playing in a band.

I partially agree with you, because when Matt is playing a ballad or a slow song or something simple u dont get the special groove that you'd get with Adler, but when he plays something difficult or a complicated beat (Locomotive for example) he kicks serious ass.

+1.

i never liked when Matt started playing on Patience, and i always thought that the acoustic version of TLF was better then the original one.

I agree, Matt Sorum is a very good drummer and I would have no problem if he would have stayed in Guns N' Roses.
"Slash either should not have been in Guns to begin with or should have left after 'Lies.' In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided -- and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better"
