Great song. I don't care too much about the grammar issues. November Rain also has a grammar error, who cares?

some of the lyrics don't make sense, or at the very least are grammatically incorrect and are the way they are to maintain the cadence or provide a rhyme... example: "when all of the reasons they've taught us fall over themselves to give way".  I get what he's trying to say, but he's not quite there. Any college, high school or middle school English teacher would weep at the sentence structure. Same with "Look for a new beginning on you".  What exactly is Axl trying to say there?  'look for a new beginning FOR you' or 'about you' or 'in regards to the feelings I have when I think about you'?  But not "on you", that makes no sense at all.  I care a lot about lyrics, so this song grates on me.  Musically, the song structure is interesting.  No real choruses, its almost like verse bridge verse bridge etc. and the solo is sort of thrown over the songs' first outro, with a beautiful, but tacked on, piano and strings long fade outro after that.  I don't hate the song but its definitely toward the end if I had to rate the whole album.  Sorry for sounding so negative.  I play this CD more than any other in my collection, but feel like an idiot singing some of the lyrics on this particular song.

great post, and i appreciate your candor.....but if these lyrics are confusing to you, then you aren't familier w/ the bands history......i'm pretty sure he's yelling at the old band saying "fuck you".............i'm 99% sure....if not then its for stephanie.....but i don't think this one is for her.

I think sorry is for Slash.....I think Shacklers is too.....

Sometimes, proper grammar won't fit into a song's melody and meter. On "Street of Dreams," the lyric is "what I thought was beautiful don't live inside of you anymore." Proper English would have been "doesn't live inside" but it would have thrown off the rhythm of the lyric.

Best song on the album, so powerful yet beautiful at the same time.  :'(
Seriously though, there are some songs, where you listen to them and they just make you feel really good inside. A reason I like GNR so much is that they have a lot of these types of songs.
An empty shell seems so easy to crack.
Got all these questions.
Don't know who I could even ask.
So I'll just lie alone and wait for the dream.

I personally think this to be one of Axl's best works ever, not just on this album.  The song seems very balanced. There are elements of a great rocker and a beautiful ballad and the way it transitions between is amazing. also it was nice to hear some clean vocals as opposed to the layered vocals as in shacklers.  For some reason i'd like to pair this song with TWAT the way November Rain, Dont Cry and Estranged all were vaguely linked.
As for the grammar and lyrics I personnaly see the not so perfect grammar to be one of Axls trademarks. It kinda leaves his lyrics more open to interpretation.

This is the only song on CD that I can always listen too. It's not always that I want to hear to the other songs. But I can play Prostitute anytime with any mood.  :)

Yeah, I think I hear things like that too. And grammatical, I'm a foreigner (Dutch) and haven't ever had an English lesson...I hear a lot off pain or anger for that matter on this album. The first time I listened to This I Love, the first song I listened to, in no time I was complete in tears. I thought WTF is that? Same with TWAT! I'm an "old" fan. I lived that period of GN'R's hey days....maybe it was that....there was a time.....I can listen to all songs on the album. They are all good in their own way. Though at moments I think "Axl tried to hard"...maybe the pressure? Who can tell? No one of us does know him in real life. So....
I've made a list while listen to ChD recently and gave the songs stars, yes maybe a bit silly. Prostitute has a ?
And sometimes it depends it all on the mood I'm in.
