I used to find their stuff really hard to play. It's weird, just the other day I was thinking how much I had come on as a guitarist over the past year, as I couldn't really see much improvement. Then I realised that last year I could just about make my way through the Sweet Child O'mine intro, and now I can play almost anything they've ever done by ear   Basically, you've just got to keep plugging away and challenging yourself. You've got to remember that Guns N' Roses was a very musically talented band, which I don't think a lot of people give them credit for.

Yeah GnR are very talented
I have been playing guitar for well over ten years I think the SCOM intro is easy,  although I think the band are great I find the riffs strange to play mayb cos my style is big riffs & GnR songs are vocal driven.

Well if you've been playing for ten years, I bow down to you, as I've only been playing a year and a half

I can see your point about the vocal driven songs though. It's definately a feel thing, which is probably due to Izzy's style. If you listen to the songs, Duff plays more of a traditional rythm guitarists role on the bass, and Izzy just adds cool texture, as opposed to the mega riff lords like Tony Iomi

A year and a half and you can do it by ear!?!? Aww man.

Anyways,. I've been playing for maybe 4 years now...I'm mediocre I think.

I can play by ear now. Like actually do it.

But man..one and a half.

Well to be honest, I live in a guitar world. When I'm sat at home, I play guitar. I have an Xbox, but it just sits there gathering dust to be honest. I spend a good chunk of my time playing, so I guess I got better at a normal rate, just spent so much time doing it it didn't take as many years (if that makes any sense at all )

I've played for about 7 years now. I learned guitar through Guns n' Roses so the way I think on guitar is heavily influenced by Slash and Izzy. When I learn other things, say some Eric Johnson, or some killswitch engage, i can see more of a struggle to learn to play it. Their styles are very different. I can see myself thinking like Guns whenever I play. It is interesting. Although, I am branching out now and learning more styles. The best thing you can do as a guitarist is learn lots of different styles, even ones you normally would not care to learn. It really helps. I've drastically expanded my musical vocabulary over the years.
