I've played for about 7 years now. I learned guitar through Guns n' Roses so the way I think on guitar is heavily influenced by Slash and Izzy. When I learn other things, say some Eric Johnson, or some killswitch engage, i can see more of a struggle to learn to play it. Their styles are very different. I can see myself thinking like Guns whenever I play. It is interesting. Although, I am branching out now and learning more styles. The best thing you can do as a guitarist is learn lots of different styles, even ones you normally would not care to learn. It really helps. I've drastically expanded my musical vocabulary over the years.
