Guitar lead with built-in killswitch?
« on: September 08, 2008, 06:14:34 PM »
1. Is it possible for someone in a guitar shop to install a kill button/switch in your guitar, for a fee?

2. What would you recommend - a killswitch or a kill-button?

3. Is it, um, not advised to move the pickup selector rapidly to recreate a killswitch? I'm just a bit worried about the thing potentially snapping off, or something. Sorry if these questions are stupid, I just wanna know.

New question: a friend of mine was yammering on about guitar cables with killswitches built-in. Do these exist, or is he pratting about?

Thanks~

1. Yes it's possible.

yeah they can do it and the button is alot more conveniant cuz of then you can just press it in and it pops right back instead of having to manually do back and forth

I personally just use my pick up selector, and I've never had a problem. Although I don't use it all that often; are you planning on using it a lot? Because if you were, it might be easier to get a proper killswitch put on the guitar, but if it's just going to be used as an effect for an outro to a song (like I use it) then I don't think it's worth it.
How about a pint of me?

I don't have time right now for watching it, but it's about installing a killswitch

Get a killswitch for sure - look on ebay - "killswitch buckethead" - they're pretty easy to install into an existing guitar if you have the right sized drill and a soldering iron. If you plan on getting someone in a shop to do it for you , then you're still best buying the switch off ebay, as the guy is unlikely to know what you're on about.
