Schumacher is the man. No other driver is, or was, as committed as him. No-one else put the hours into testing as he did, and no one else was as obsessed with attention to detail. Ross Brawn has said that he is the best driver ever, as he was willing to listen to advice, unlike others like Senna. It also angers me when people say he isn't a nice person: he would buy presents for everyone in his team's kids, and was really good friends with them all. And let's face it, he's led a really quiet personal life, unlike some of the playboy drivers.

Schumacher is godlike.
How about a pint of me?

LOL Jos Verstappen! I wonder if he and Schumi are still best friends. I didn't like at all what I've read him being a wife beater! What a bummer that was to me.  >(
I kinda miss all the drivers you mentioned. Also DC.....I liked DC so much. I'm only a woman.... ;) Doeiiiiiiiiiiiii

I think Jos and Schumi don't see eachother that much anymore nowadays. They did spend at lot of vacation together with both families though.

Don't believe everything what's written about Verstappen. He's like Axl an easy target by the media (although obviously only in the Netherlands, the only country where most people only complained about and criticized Verstappen, while in England and Germany many people admired his racing style and no-nonsense attitude.

I hope he will win the 24 hours of Le Mans next year for Aston Martin!

If you want to watch DC, you just have to check the BBC broadcasts of the Grand Prixs. DC is a main guest, together with Eddie Jordan. Cool stuff. After the race is over, I always switch from RTL7 to BBC1.

Brawn only worked with Schumi and others of his and the current generation. How the hell can he compare Schumi with Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Juan-Manuel Fangio, Alberto Ascari, Gilles Villeneuve, Keke Rosberg, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nigel Mansell etc?

I can imagine that Schumacher is personally a nice guy, but on track he was sometimes controversial. Adelaide 1994 and Jerez 1997, final rounds of the championship. I can remember both moments by heart. Similarities: Schumacher's title rival is faster, tries to overtake him in a justified way, but gets smashed of track. In 1994 Schumacher retires immediately after the crash, Hill carries on but has to retire in the pits: Schumacher champion. In 1997 schumacher retires, while Villeneuve can carry on in first place, even allowing both McLarens to pass at the end of the race, finishing 3rd: Villeneuve champion.

I know where I can find David and I do the same as you do! I've always liked Jos but unfortunately I know nice looking men who can't keep their hands off women and I don't believe everything that's written but this seem to be true alas.......further I agree with almost all you've said.

It is quite sad, that many times people work for decades to achieve something, only to lose it later in minutes.
This is true for reputation and many other things. I try to look these sport events without think too much about their "extra curricular" activities, when their do not drive. Nomatter, playboy nor not, it takes alot to forget those rumors, and just get to the car and drive for yourself and for the nation that disses you, as their favorite tabloid character.  :)

When they put their helmets on, they are not the man on scene, but a driver among others, to compete until the end.
This, for my oppinnion, is the meaning of true racing. It has nothing to do with the tabloids, nothing with the past, but reaching for the glory on the concrete battle ground.

Maybe it is because English isn`t my natural language of choice, nor maybe because I just failed to make a point at all...  :smirk:

In fact I found some of those "extra curricular activities" (besides wife beating!) kinda colourful. The "older" drivers had more personality, where more outspoken, which gave it something extra to me. I'm not talking tabloid talk stuff here.

But how contradiction it may seems, I do understand your opinion and appreciate it.

The last time I "saw" Mika was on tv as a guest on Boris Becker's wedding. The serious sport journalist didn't recognise him!! Are you willing to tell me what's Mika up to these days?  TIA!  :)

Still, just like in the Axl - Erin or Stephany story you don't know what happened between the walls of the Verstappen residence. I hate men who beat their wives/girlfriends, but as long as it's unclear what exactly happened you can't judge people.

From the current generation I think Raikkonen is the only cool guy. He just does whatever he feels like, participating in boat races dressed in a monkey suit, just participating in the World rally championship for fun, dropping his pants while being totally wasted in a night club. He's doesn't say too much in interviews/press conferences, but that's cause he hates doing them. Gotta love Kimi!

From the older generation I liked personalities like Jacques Villeneuve, Eddie Irvine and Juan-Pablo Montoya (breaking his arm with tennis...right!)

Well, there has been a court case and Jos has been punshised. That are the facts. No, we don't know what really happened. The judge though seemed to be convinced something has happened. But I can assure you it are often the men whom are the last ones you expected to be women beaters! I was shocked but not surprised really.

I agree about Kimi. And I agree about the older drivers but like to add Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard to that list.

Behhhhhhhhhhhh  :'( there goes the fun: Schumi cannot race due to problems with his neck injury because of an accident with his bike last February. Rumor had it for some days this was the case. His neck is too vulnerable to handle the force. Luca Badoer, test racer is on track now next Sunday. What a bummer......but nice for Luca of course.....
Nah, and Renault is punished so Alonso cannot race in his own country..... :argh oh, well I don't have to worry for a hangover since I've a party Saturday...
