Pedal
« on: November 26, 2007, 09:27:06 PM »
so. i want to get some kind of pedal. i have no clue what i want, and i have no clue for what excactly i would like to use it.
i know i'd like to have a wah (dunno wht kind), or a zakk wylde type of screaming pedal (as far as my knowledge goes, i can get that sound with a pedal, no?)

so, basically my problem is, that i don't know what i would want to use it for, and wht kind of type of music i would be going for. could somebody help me start off with this? wht should i basically be concentrating on when getting an effects pedal?  :paranoid:

hey freek...if you buy a standard cry baby wah (i'd say they're the best wah's you can buy)
then you can add any effect onto it after, that way your not stuck with a constant screaming sound if you were to buy zacks pedal..im assuming thats what would happen...if you get a standard u can add what ever you like to it and play multiple genres!

If this is just a hobby for you and you don't need a fuck load off effects you could just look at one of those digitech multi effects! they have a built in wah pedal and looooads of build in effects!

I definately would advise against buying a pedal just for the sake of having a pedal, you need to know exactly what you want. or chances are you'll waste your money.

So either decide you definately want one specific sound like a wah. Or do what Sex_art suggested and buy a multi effects pedal such as a boss ME-50 or the digitech and use it to see what sounds you like. The quality of effects won't be as good as in single pedals but you'll get more of an idea.

Also, what do you mean by 'zakk wylde screaming style'?

I get the impression he's referring to pinch harmonics, in which case dude the only real option is to learn to play pinch harmonics (although you can cheat and help yourself a little with a really crazy fuzz pedal or a whammy pedal [neither of those would be at all cheap though])

Possibly, but as you say that's a technique problem more than anything else and can't be easily solved with a pedal.

yeah man with the digitech pedal youl get loads of stuff to play with i think its your personal best bet :)
if you must buy one.

but indeed the effects wont be quite as good as single units.
yet single units are about £60 each where as the digitech comes with about 150 ..i think?
so its wroth the cash if your starting.

WEll there are many pedals for many sounds for many uses.   :paranoid: I guess you have to know what you want. because when you know what you want as in sound, then you can search for that sound. so finding what you want  :?: will make you know what you want.

:paranoid: I lost track of myself.

anyway I'll tell you what I want. I want my Deluxe Memory MAn   it is siting in my friends basement in another country. I sort of miss this the most  :shy:  along with my 80's RATT  and Reverb.

thx for everybody's comments. i don't wanna buy a pedal just for having one and wasting my money. thats not how i am, i think you could have come to that conclusion when i was looking for epi lp in good price for about half a year  ;)

actually, the problem is i don't know excactly wht sound i wanna get, and i don't know wht i could achieve it with.

i would mainly wanna play metal (maiden + metallica) calssical and hard rock (gn'r and zeppelin kind of stuff) and i would also like to achieve some kind of a bluesish tone. this is a really wide range, i know, but i have no idea which one i want/need the most

EDIT: i took the time to go on boss and marshall site and listen to tons of samples. and this is the list of the pedals i liked:

Blues Breaker II (BB-2)
Guv'nor (GV-2 Plus)
Jackhammer (in question mark, because i think its a ittle too much metal, i'm not sure about this one yet)
DS-1 Distortion
Ds- 2 Turbo distortion
MT-2 metal zone

^wht do you guys think? which one suits better to the music i said i want to play?  :paranoid:

what amp do you have??? Tube or solid-state ??

with tube buy overdrive.... with solid-state I'd say... Boss Metal Zone or somekinda (heavy) metal distortion pedal 'cos with small solid-states you can get hard rockish sound without pedal and then with the pedal you can also get more metal sound if you want... and get wah you need that if you play blues ;) + you can use it for solos too like slash or Zakk does.

and if you want overdrive then buy Dunlop MXR Wylde-OD or Boss SuperOverdrive
those are the best overdrive pedals in the world END OF FUCKING STORY

+ Chorus Pedal is also cool ;) if you dont have chorus in your amp
YOU CAN HAVE BOOZE WITHOUT FUN

i have solid. marshall mp30dfx (i can already see the bashing coming nearer...)

i don't want as heavy sound as zakk, i had the privilage to try a zakk wah yesterday, and i didn't really like its sound either, so...

and i don't know, wht is considered better, boss or marshall. i mean with the amp that i've got now. maybe i really don't even need a distortion amp, if i can mix my sounds on the amp. maybe i'll just go for a wah, or better yet wait till i have a better amp?

is that so? i've never read that anywhere.
though when i tried the zakk pedal, it wouldn't work with a distortion pedal on. you'd have to turn the distortion pedal off before using the way, otherwise it wouldn't work...
maybe thats what you mean?

That's a good decision.
If not, though I hear the metal muff is a great pedal.
