There was too much "Oh, that sounds like a re-write of Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Oh, that sounds like a re-write of Run Like Hell," etc.
It's very true that there are many "variations" of old sounds - but there is a reason for this. If you had read a bit about the album, you'd know that these recordings come from "jam sessions" the band played in 1993: after a long break, the three remaining members (Gilmour, Wright & Mason) jammed together to "get back into it", hence the "typical" Floyd sounds in there... This "album" is made out of the 20 or so hours of recordings they had left from back then.
Thus, it's not exactly a full new album, it's more like a reminiscence to Rick Wright. And for that, it is indeed pretty good.
