has anyone read this book? i've just started reading it and i can't put it down. its wrote by Mick Wall which makes it that bit more interesting considering the history between the two.

i've read about half of it now and it is surprising good there is only one mention of him criticising axl so far which was about the current gnr but apart from that he's not bein bias. its defo worth a read tho.

I've got about 20 Stephen King's books in .pdf downloaded from torrents...
But of course, I've bought most of them in original, too. So I dwnloaded it just for the pleasure of the original issue and language. Also got some rares I couldn't get as a book format.

I wish people would open their eyes and realize how sad the whole GN'R thing has become, although it's still nice to hear Nightrain every now and again performed by the original singer, but that's all really.

And it always baffles me how people hate Mick Wall and say he's been fucked in the ass by Axl when really, the lyrics to Get in the ring are just laughable. At least Wall doesn't take it seriously, unlike Axl.

I haven't bought it yet, but I will.

I've read it all, it's not a bad read.

It really shows what and how Axl survived in the UYI days. It's shocking how depressed he was.

Sure he goes off on one how he disproves of the new band but who cares? He's a journalist, they all think the same until people actally like them. Journalists are tools of the trends...fuck em imo.

I think it's probably the best account of Gn'R's story i've read yet. It's miles ahead of 'the band that time forgot' or the shitty biography of Slash (Both written by the same guy incidently). The bits about Axl and GN'R post-1994 are fascinating, especialy the argument which led to Axl sacking Matt.

Yeah inoticed that, though i agree with his idea that Libertad kicks ass (honestly!), i did feel that he was exaggerating at times, seems to me that he still has a grudge against Axl and is expressing it by hugely endorsing GN'Rs main rivals in the music scene.

I`ve read it myself, and tought it was quite good actually.It gives me anyway a better picture and knowledge to it all. The first biography I`ve ever bought.

You have to interpret it in your own anyway, like all other things in life. Jouarnalism is journalism.

It`s obvious that Axl is a tender and sensitiv person.

On the other hand if Chinese Democracy don`t come out within early 2008, I can`t give him anymore credit, reagardless how talented ans special he is.

He will just end up like a tragic figure in the history. All that talent wasted. It seems to me that he suffers with performance-anxiety.

Anyway I will always love him

Yeah, it is very expensive, but fortunately i was able to buy it in HMV for just Â£10 rather than the normal Â£17
Why don't you try getting it from a library instead? It's definately worth reading properly, and it's a much better biography than the crappy one about Slash "survivng GN'R, Velvet Revolver + rocks snake pit", its more professionally written.

yep, I agree about the Slash biography. Picked it up today in HMV and read a bit, but it just came across as a suck up to Slash which sickened me a bit and poorly written. I mean I love Slash and all but if I had to pick between a well written critique of Axl or a piece of gushing fan service to Slash, I'd have to choose Wall's book

I read it from when the old GNR fell apart because from that point on Axl vanished then i re-read the whole book.It's well written it isn't kissing Axl's ass (as if we'd expect that from Mick Wall) and it has perspective.A hell of a lot better than that bag of shit GNR The Band That Time Forgot that was released a few years back.

I didn't say it was bad, it just annoyed me with the fact that there were so many obvious editing errors, like the discography at the end claims the albums AFD, Lies, UYI.1 and UYI.2 were all released in 1991, despite the fact that the next page correctly says the years the singles from each album was released. Also, earlier on he says that Robin Finck now refuses to speak about his experiences in GN'R, which appears that the author doesn't realise he only left for a year in 1999 before coming back in 2000, despite the next page giving the 2005 line-up of GN'R and includes Robin Finck!

As far as the book itself is concerned, it's not bad and still makes for good reading, especially for an unauthorised biography, but does get annoying and tedious in places, as well as skipping a few years of GN'Rs history. (It seems to focus entirely on Axl- when it comes to Slash leaving, he says "Slash departed" and that's it, as if he had nothing to do wih the band)

I don't know. I'm reading 'The band that time forgot' and have nothing to blame. I like this book so far.

There are a few good photo's in it, but i think it's silly not to buy perfectly good book just because it was written by Mick Wall.

He's not overly nasty towards him, though he is when he starts talking about the current incarnation. (and in the introduction he mentions that GN'R is essentially dead, regardless of what Axl's up to nowadays). The most interesting bit for me was the description of how Matt was sacked. It was done by matt (an old interview), and mentions how Axl says "I'm Guns N' Roses and i don't need Slash"

Despite that, I really hate what Kurt Cobain said about him (and this was all way before the "Shut your bitch up" thing.) Guns N' Roses were a much better band than Nirvana, IMO. Axl not talented? What the fuck? If he wasn't talented and unique no one would give a shit about him.
Anyway, this was a well-written book. I recommend it.

I do have one warning about this book: Wall didn't do much research. He relied heavily on interviews I'd already read, and on magazine articles. If you're really familiar with the story of Guns N' Roses you may be disappointed about the lack of new information. It's still a good read though. I learned more new things from Slash's autobiography.
