Why would you want to waste your time reading them if you know what happens to him in the end?  I really like the books, but it would ruin it for me if I know what happened to him in the end.... and now I do know since I'm done reading it.

Did anyone like the prologue? I really liked how it showed him as an adult and shows what happens to him.

Some more info, courtesy of JKR (spoilers):

Harry and Ron are both Aurors; Harry is the department head, and Hermione is "very high up" in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Luna Lovegood has become a naturalist of sorts, searching the world for odd and unique creatures.

At Hogwarts there is a new permanent Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, since the jinx that Voldemort placed on this job is broken.

There is a new headmaster, as Professor McGonagall was getting old.
(Rowling did not say who either of these are.)
