New Bass Amp
« on: June 09, 2007, 07:54:03 PM »
Well, I've been playing bass now for about...say 6/7 months. Up until now I've been using a really crappy 10 watt practice amp, and I want a new one because this one just...takes the piss, it sucks to be blunt lol.

So a mate of mine showed me a site which does have some really great deals on it, I figured I'd go for this amp;

http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_bxl3000a_ultrabass.htm

It's not sooo expensive but if I was doing some smaller gig, then it would be sufficient and will be great for playing at home as well.

I just wanna know what you guys think of it, the reviews I've read are all positive.

Thanks in advance

my old bassist used to use this amp....

Its got alot of power for such a small box  :D

I think its really quite good, when im looking for bass gear i go for the 7 - channel EQ system to get the sound u want so if u get one, dont get annoyed when you have to spend days getting the sort of tone u want...

behringers are quite good for bass amps... not so good for guitar amps in my opinion...

Behringers are notorious for not only sounding pretty bland but failing constantly. i've played with a few bands who have used them, and 4 out of 6 times, something has gone wrong. ANd they all had bad tone. You get what you pay for with behringer.

Ashdown are the brand to check out.
http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown_t15_180s.htm in your price range,
or you can save up and get some of the higher end MAG series stuff.
But for the love of god don't get a behringer, they are the Marshall MG's of the bass world.

Hhhmm...I've never seen that view on a Behringer before :) But I'll keep it in mind, because at the moment, my range is £200, and for that ashdown one, it doesn't seem to have the power the Behringer has, my bass teacher is gonna have a look at all the amps available and point out the best one, it was a toss up between the one I linked, and the one you linked.

Thanks :)

Look on either talkbass.com or ultimate-guitar.com and you'll find hundreds of people who've had the same experience as me.

And actually, the behringer will probably not be more powerful. behringer like to rate their amps by the peak rating, which is not at what the amp actually runs at, it's the rating the amp can handle for short bursts in case of a power spike or whatever. What you really want to look at is the RMS rating, with a 300watt peak rating on the behringer it's likely to be really around 180w max, the same as the Ashdown, except the ashdown won't break on you or sound like an auditory holocaust.
