Iran and The bomb, Iraq and the War, Mr Chirac
« on: February 07, 2007, 02:02:50 PM »
Looking for a calm, polite discussion. please do not focus on "France".

Two things happened recently in world's diplomacy.

1 - IRAN
Chirac, french President, has made a "touchy" comment on Iran situation.

Chirac muses on Iran, and then retreats
PARIS: President Jacques Chirac said in an interview that an Iran that possessed one or two nuclear weapons would not pose much of a danger, adding that if Iran were ever to launch a nuclear weapon against a country like Israel, it would lead to the immediate destruction of Tehran.

After the quick shock, his retreats, the bashing of all sides (left and right wing). People are starting to understand what he meant, and that, despite the character - he is far from being a good president - Jacques Chirac has the crazy ability to be right on spot. Usually on international issues.

2 - IRAQ 2008
French diplomacy comes ahead and advise the USA to set a 2008 horizon date for american and allies troops to return. Stating that, as they said in 2003, the military management was useless.
And time proved it (as people always say " time will tell").
3000 americans dead
12000 iraqis civilians  dead

Your thoughts?

Chirac may have his critics (I admit to that during the CAP French farm subsidies debate a while ago) but when it comes to the important life vs death situations he has made a very good decision, along with Schroeder, Jin Tao and Putin to not get involved in the middle east conflict.

Tony Blair has such an ego that he believed he could influence George Bush over the second UN resolution and when he realised Bush's loyalty lies with the oil executives he was already in too deep and couldn't back out on Afghanistan and Iraq. I am sure that Britain will have no part in military action against Iran.

If Iran gets a nuke I will not be bothered. I actually support them in their decision to allow themselves to not be bullied by US threats and the ultimate deterant must be acquiring a nuke. US knows that when Iran gets the bomb it must be regarded in a completely different way so they are trying to take proactive action to stop this. This is bullying.

911 has shown us that the most powerful weapon Bush has in justifying a conflict and furthering public support is the Jew owned media organisations in the States. They control public opinion and they have the ability to portray Ahmadinejad as a lunatic with a nuke, and once you have the public support and a leader like Bush, war is inevitable.
