Kill Switch
« on: March 05, 2006, 02:14:41 AM »
Listening to some of the solos in the GNR leaks got me thinking about kill switches again. What are the different ways to get them put in and how much does it cost usually? I used to know of a site or 2 that explained how to make um, but I can't find it or any others for that matter. I want it to sound really smooth like in the new songs.
I might get a new guitar soon so this seemed like the perfect time to ask. Can I get it put in as a button instead of a toggle switch and what kind of guitar does it work best (i.e. most easily) on? I have an Epiphone Les Paul right now and even before I broke off 3/4 of the toggle switch it was still too slow to get that smooth cut doing the volume trick, plus the fact that I play with the switch on treble. I remember some of the crap like with the rewiring of it, but its been a long time. Thanx in advance.

basic kill switch you just need a guitar with separate volume dials for each pick up, set the pickup you're gonna be playing through to an appropriate volume, set the volume of the other pickup to 0, now, when you want to kill the sound, just switch your pickup selector to the one with the volume at 0

Though it's been a long since my guitar could really pull that off and it never was as smooth or quick as I want it to be, this "Kill" box on ebay might actually work out better if it's fast enough/ smooth enough for me. To bad I can't get an email back.

Works extremely fast and rapid for me.

And you can turn either pickup on or off really fast to create a stutter kind of sound.
