07-21-06 | SECC, Glasgow 2006 Review 4
by Scott

It all started around 18.30 when the crowd were let into the hall and dashed
for the front row, i was lucky enough to get quite close to the front, just
a couple rows back from the barrier. People were looking in really good
moods as they prepared for the biggest band ever.

I have never heard of the first act before but i think they were called
Towers of London they were ok, nothin special in my opinion. They played
about 4 songs then went off and about 20 minutes later on came Bullet For My
Valentine who i thought were terrible.

There was a very mixed reaction from the crowd, mainly everyone standing there with long faces looking quite bored with this act. Some were getting into it but they were just the wrong
support act for GNR, as mentioned in previous reviews. After they played their songs the crowd was in great expectation of GNR but it was about an hour and a half before the showed.

Before they showed there were chants of "Guns N Roses, Guns N Roses!" followed by huge boo's when the didn't show and then "Who the fuck is axl roses, who the fuck is axl rose!" Some people actually started leaving before they came on!

Then the lights went out, and the opening riffs of Welcome to the Jungle ripped out across the hall, the crowd screamed and cheered as the band came on. Then everyone went mental. For WTTJ and Its so Easy people were getting lifted over the barrier and trying to get out but the crowd were crazy, massive swaying side to side and crushing people forwards, what a great
atmosphere it was. After Mr Brownstone Axl asked everyone to take a step back to stop crushing people at the front.

The setlist was roughly but not all in this order, i may have missed some out aswell:

Welcome To The Jungle
It's So Easy
Mr. Brownstone
Live And Let Die
Knocking On Heavens Door
Robin Finck solo into Sweet Child O'Mine
Richard and Robin solo "Beautiful"
Dizzy Solo
The Blues
Ron Thal solo (Don't Cry)
You Could Be Mine
November Rain
Out Ta Get Me
Used to Love her (with Izzy)
Think About You
My Michelle
Patience (with izzy)
Nightrain
Paradise City

Axl was amazing 110% as good as the old days he was perfect on every song and the guitarists were brilliant aswell, never made an error. They each played their solos with loads of feeling and expression, some guys in the crowd didn't appreciate the solo's shouting stuff saying they were crap and that they should play some songs, but i thought they were great. The pyros were great, live and let die especially huge blasts of flames, just added to the great atmosphere.

In the build up to November Rain when Axl was sitting down at the piano and peparing himself some guy shouted something along the lines of "This is pish play a song" to which Axl replied "go home, fuckhead. No-one is stopping you, you could catch a bus or something"

When Izzy came on stage he got a massive cheer and was great. He played a few songs with the other guys including used to love her which was brilliant.

The highlight for me was Nightrain which was played to perfection with the entire crowd getting into it. It was really great. The only drawback for me was the one and a half hour wait but it made it all the better when they came on.

They played a few new songs but it was all the old classics that got the great recpetions and then they finished with Paradise City with more pyros and confetti to finish off a great show. This concert was fantastic and proabably the best i will ever go to. If you have reserved judgement on the new band dont, buy some tickets and get to a gig near you, you won't be
disappointed.
