09-16-06 | Hard Rock Hotel - The Joint Review
by Brad

I had tickets for Sunday's show but was thinking what the hell let's head over to the Hard Rock and see what's going on and maybe I'll see tonight's show.  So my wife and I arrive at the Hard Rock and feel the excitement.  I run into a lady who is selling tickets and seconds later I'm standing in a freaking huge line waiting for the show to start.  After waiting for about an half hour I hear some cheering, thinking the line is finally moving I glance over and there is Axl freaking Rose walking past.  He has security around him but I stick out my hand and Axl gladly shakes my hand along with my wife's.

Now my wife is no Heavy Metal fanatic but supports me in my quest for GNR.  After shaking Axl's hand she got pumped and couldn't wait.

Guns was only a little bit late starting the show but once they started the night was magical.  When the intro to Welcome to the Jungle started the crowd went crazy.  Everybody had their fists pumping and screaming at the tops of their lungs.  The crowd this night was like one, everyone was cool, nobody was pushing or shoving, everyone just wanted to enjoy.

Axl came out, looking cool as shit and did his, "You know where the fuck you rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".  The hair on the back of my neck stood up, chills rolled down my spine and for one brief moment I knew what heaven must feel like.  He sounded fantastic, his voice was like the Axl of old, maybe better.  His energy level was killer and it looked like he was having a freaking fun time on stage.  He gave the performance of a lifetime.  This was by far and away the best concert I have ever been too.  I was so thankful I went to Saturday nights show because that was the night when the planets alligned.  It was that awesome.

About the band.  I love the old lineup and had always wished, dreamed, prayed that they would reunite.  Not anymore.  I love the new band, absolutely fucking love it.  We can all vote for who we like best like the poll on this site but I would say take it down and enjoy them all.  Each one adds something special to the band.  For me Richard Fortus has the best stage presence and is killer to watch.  Robin is Robin and most people already know about him.  The one guy whose playing impressed me the most and has converted me to liking him the most, strictly for his playing, is Ron Thal.  He is an incredible, incredible player.  His solo was by far the best and I felt it was a treat to watch that guy make his guitar sing.  I would have to say that he is the one player they could least afford to lose which is a 180 degree turnaround from my opioion before I watched this concert.  But, all 3 on stage is a treat that I hope we can enjoy for many years.

The performance that Guns put on this night is hard to describe.  They played for about 2 and half hours give or take and every second was amazing.  The crowd was into it from WTTJ all the way to Paradise City, which was the encore and last song.  I don't think I can do this concert justice with mere words it was that amazing.  I went to Sunday's show which was awesome and I will do a review but it wasn't the same as Saturdays.  People Guns and Roses is back and better than ever.  Axl sounds truly amazing and is in top form.  Get out and see the shows if you have a chance it will blow your mind.
