11-18-06 | Quebec Review
by LAYO

I arrived at the Colisée at around 10:15 pm, knowing what the opening bands were all about as I saw them in Ottawa the night before..  At that time, Sebastien was on stage rocking out..  He looked like he was enjoying himself and so was the crowd.  He played pretty much the same set as the night before; and he finished at around 11:00 pm.  So the waiting began and the anticipation for Axl's return to "La Belle Province" - the province of Quebec began.  I must say - all of those people from Quebec - you guys know how to fucking rock out!!!!!

With everything that happened back in 1992 in MTL with the riot and all - there was this unique buzz in the arena……….. - not necessarily a negative one - just this great sense of excitement!!!

Jungle started at about 11:50 pm…  The place absolutely EXPLODED!!!  The crowd was louder than it was in Ottawa; and I had first level seats and just taking it all in - it was something very special, it literally sent chills down my spine.  He went through about 4 songs straight.. And the highlight of the show for me was during Kockin' someone had a sign that got to Axl that said something to the effect of - "Axl - please come back to MTL we love you!!"  He showed it to the crowd and started smiling, then he put it by the drums - implying that he was going to keep it…  WOW - from that moment on it seemed as though with everything contraversial that had happened was in the past; this NEW GN'R was willing to un-do everything wrong that had occured…  Something very nice to wintess and experience live in person!!  The set lasted about 2 and a half hours and they played the following songs (I hope I got them all), and in no particular order:

Jungle
It's so Easy
Brownstone
Live and Let Die
Knockin on Heaven's Door
Robin solo
Sweet Child
Chinese Democracy
Dizzy solo
The Blues
IRS
Better
My Michelle (with Bach)
Nightrain
Ron Thal solo with Don't Cry sing along
Down on the Farm
Richard solo with Beautiful rendition
Out ta get me
You Could be Mine
Used to Love Her
Patience
November Rain
Paradise City

The only difference between the Ottawa and Quebec show was there was no appearances by the Trailer Park Boys; as I don't think they are very well known in that part of the country, Down on the Farm was played and Ron didn't do his "Oh Canada" rendition - I guess because they weren't sure how the national anthem would be responded to; as I do not want to get political… but I'm sure there were reasons..  Axl was in a great mood - and talked about how beautiful the city is and he was a bit more talkative for this show..  His voice was as powerful as ever and he can still hold down the notes with the crowd in the palm of his hand..  And the band interaction with the crowd and themselves is very evident as well..  Axl's final words were "Thank you so much, you guys lit a fire under our asses tonight - Good night!!"  Lots of happy faces leaving the arena that night; and even though I do not speak very much French I made many friends that night on one common theme - "GN'FN'R are back with a vengance and ready to kick your asses!!!"  Do yourselves a favour and go see the fucking shows - you will not be disappointed!!!
